People pleasing book recommendations?

I am a massive people pleaser that has trouble sticking up for myself. A lot of times, I don’t even realize I’m doing it until after the fact. I don’t know how to just keep my mouth shut and let myself think and process until after a situation is over. I know what I need to do or should have done after the fact, but it doesn’t even occur to me in the moment to say things like “hmm let me think on that” or “I’ll get back to you about that”.

It is so frustrating that this response is so ingrained in me that I know it’s hurtful, but I can’t even stop myself from doing it.

Any book recommendations for this? Or other ideas/strategies?

Another tipping question

I have been using a small company for about a year now for every other week cleans. The typical cleaning team is the company owner and an employee. I haven’t typically tipped since I read you don’t tip the owner, but I did double my payment for a clean just prior to Christmas as a tip.

Recently, they added another cleaner to the team that comes to our house. The individual is part time and may not always be on the rotation to help with our house is my understanding ( I think she is a college student and may have changes with semesters?). Since now the typical cleaning team is the owner and 2 employees, should I start tipping? Or continue with the holiday tip?

TIA!

Another positivity post!

School-based SLP, and I have 10 device users on my caseload, ranging from primarily targeting prelinguistic and joint attention skills to a student out in general education. Y’all, my kids are doing so well! Im actually a bit sad to not have them over the summer because I don’t want them to lose momentum they’ve built this school year!

A- my gen ed student who has a device to support apraxia went from up to 1 core word a session, and weak knowledge of vocabulary location, to using 3-5 core words a session! They are also starting to label full prepositional phrases!

B- another student with a device with apraxia and autism is moving to a more inclusive schedule next year, they are emerging putting 2 words together despite only getting their own personal device this past fall. They are showing great operational and strategic competency as well!

C- one of my more avoidant and self directed students loves Eric Carl books right now. They are paraphrase reading them with their device and putting 2-3 words together in an utterance.

D- another student in a full special ed classroom was using their device to tell the teacher what drink they wanted. They said the wrong choice. Politely pushed the drink away and fixed his selection on the device. This would have been a meltdown 9 months ago at the beginning of the year.

My other students with devices are also making steady progress, these are my highlights from this month. Turns out, I am making a difference, and I am sure you are too!

It had been a heavy week with difficult circumstances for several of my students’ home life, but I’m so thankful that they are making progress in their abilities to communicate and participate.
