[V1] I've noticed that many darker fantasy stories (e.g. George R.R. Martin) get a lot of criticism due to their frank depiction of sexual assault. However, it seems to me that people don't have the reaction to "The Wandering Inn". Why do you think that is?

Even early in the series, the narrative pulls no punches in explaining what the original chieftain of the Flooded Water Tribe was planning to do to Erin. And that's not even going into The Mountain City tribe, Roshal, or many of the more horrifying instances in which it is brought up. In my opinion, these are just as nightmarish as anything in "A Song of Ice and Fire"/"Game of Thrones", "Berserk", or "Goblin Slayer". What do you think explains the difference in response?

[V1] You are transported to Innworld carrying one Earth object that you own with the goal to survive and thrive. Which item would you choose?

One thing I think about when reading is how I would survive, or how I would rise to power (probably pretty poorly in regards to either goal). What would your Innworld strategy be?

[V7.18] I am finding Magnolia to be far more frustrating than Flos so far.

While I haven't interacted that much with the fandom, I've gotten the impression that there're a lot of people who hate on Flos. Which, fair. However, while Flos is probably the worse person by any metric you choose, enslaving hundreds of thousands and killing even more innocents for the sake of, when you get down to it, naked ego, Magnolia is much more aggravating to me. She claims that everything she does is for the sake of peace, but she provokes pointless conflict in nearly every interaction. With Erin, Laken, Ryoka, other nobles, pretty much everyone other than Zel. Judging by the way bullying is her go-to solution for every problem, Magnolia's peace would have to be a world where everyone else is too weak and afraid to resist her.

I am, to be fair, biased by the fact that Magnolia is mean to characters that I care about, while I have never experienced the perspective of one of the soldiers who Flos has sold into slavery. However, I also find the way that the story presents Magnolia as a badass to be a bit grating. Compared to Erin, Laken, Ryoka, Geneva, even another born ruler like Flos, it seems like Magnolia's achievements are paltry compared to the advantages with which she started. Certainty not enough for her to have the nearly mythical reputation for competency with which she is presented. Her diplomatic prowess seem to always create more distrust than before she interfered. The skills of espionage which the story applauds always feel extremely basic for the amount of power at her disposal, and never actually seems to uncover any useful information. It feels like there's a disconnect between the Magnolia which is shown and the one that the story wants me to believe she is.

Edit: I also feel like Ryoka has used her far lesser relationship with Teriarch to much greater effect than Magnolia ever has. If the categorically non-diplomatic Ryoka can leverage a few meetings with Teriarch into a permanent alliance with a Gnoll tribe, what excuse does Magnolia have for making no progress with the Drakes after decades?

I feel like the question of whether guns and nukes beat magic isn't what they should be concerned about in a theoretical war between innworld and Earth

It seems to me that both sides have means to quickly make the competition of tech and Skills (edit: as in, the direct clash of the two) irrelevant.

Innworld: We have no defense against the level of espionage they are capable of. What is preventing any Winstram mage with any proficiency with illusions from walking into a leader's office with the face of a trusted friend, then killing that leader and taking their place? Or, even if it is unsustainable, rulers from using charm abilities to compel us to bend to their orders?

Us: Any army that enters Innworld will gain classes and Skills, including ones that have never been seen before. Many will grant magical abilities. At that point, the major standing armies from our world would have all of Innworld's advantages, the numbers of a Goblin King's forces, and nukes.
