A Tribute to the Grunts.
Today, I would like to pay tribute to this race that has known only suffering and injustice. Forced to join the Covenant, they were enslaved, and the Jackals attempted to sterilize them. Their planet was ravaged by the Elite forces, and today they are reduced to cannon fodder. The Prophets show them no respect, yet it's clear they aren't meant for fighting. Unlike other races, they fear and dread the Master Chief.
All they want is to return to their planet and end the fighting. But no. They endure armed conflicts again and again, whether with humans, Prometheans, or the Flood. Honestly, ever since I started playing Halo, I've always felt uneasy about slaughtering them. You can tell they aren't aggressive and that they're forced to fight. The cutscenes clearly illustrate this, especially those in Halo 2. I find that we hear them suffering the most when we kill them. I've always found that disturbing.
Do you share this feeling? Do you want to befriend the Grunts? Do you think it would be worthwhile for a spin-off game to pay tribute to them? For example, a survival horror game where you play as these little creatures? Or do you prefer to continue slaughtering them for the sheer pleasure of it? In any case, for me, I'm all for peace with the Grunts!
