Lots of questions on painted popcorn and state of the current ceiling.

Ok so I’m working on changing painted popcorn ceiling to knockdown. I started by using my drywall sander with 60 grit to knock it down. Found some spots that came off in small sheets then I decided it would be bettter to scrape it off. Now I’ve found some things I need guidance on. So the big piece of drywall I cannot scrape off the popcorn . And there’s also black stuff on it( I guess mold) there seems to be some water because it is discolored but it feels solid. Is my only option to cut out the entire piece.( it was previously repaired by home owner).

Don’t charge bs prices!!!

Maybe yall can learn from my mistake, new handyman business, I struggled finding customers so I had a request on messenger for a job. 7 ceiling fans!! Easy enough. I asked him his budget, he said 50$ a fan I said sure. All the fans were 12 feet high it was a mansion under construction. I was dead after the first 4 the whole time the house had no a/c . Charge accordingly, I lost money on the job :(.
