Japan Approved visa experience - VFS Mumbai

Sharing my recent experience in case it helps someone planning to apply.

I applied on 8th May and received the notification on 20th May to collect the passport from VFS(it was approved)

My Documents:

• Completely filled & signed visa application form

• Travel itinerary

• Cover letter stating I will bear my own expenses & employer NOC

• Latest ITR

• Last 3 months’ bank statements

• Non-refundable return flight tickets

• Hotel booking confirmations

Note: I tried submitting a copy of my mutual fund and stock holding statement but they returned it back to me.

I kept everything transparent, structured and consistent across the documents, the dates need to tie up properly

Total processing time: 8 working days.

Tips: Take photocopies of your passport and avoid bringing your laptop since they charge 500 for locker services and you will not need your laptop and they also charge heavily for photocopies and printouts.

Super smooth experience overall.

If anyone is applying soon and has questions, feel free to ask — happy to help

Japan Visa dependent bank account

Japan Tourist Visa – Sponsored dependent has more savings than the sponsor. How to handle?

Applying for a Japan tourist visa from India (Mumbai consulate). Traveling with my sister who I've declared as my dependent and am sponsoring. However, her bank balance (~₹4.3L) is higher than mine (~₹2L).

Since she's sponsored, only my financials will be evaluated — which makes our application look weaker than it actually is.

Options I'm considering:

  1. Transfer her funds to my account (though it'll look like a recent top-up)
  2. Remove the sponsorship and let her apply independently
  3. Keep sponsorship but mention her savings in the cover letter

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What worked?

In the visa form I have mentioned date of arrival as 18th Jul as that is the date I'm landing in Japan, however my flight is on 17th Jul. So what date should I mention in the cover letter? 17th or 18th?

My Japan trip is planned for Jul 17 from Mumbai and my agent says he’ll be applying for it from Mumbai around Jun 15 so does that seem fine or it can be done sooner. Just wanted to check as he was saying the embassy is taking applications only 1 month from the trip
