LETTER: Pitbull attack at Fintry Provincial Park May 11, 2026 British Columbia, Canada.

LETTER: Pitbull attack at Fintry Provincial Park May 11, 2026 British Columbia, Canada.

Published 5:00 pm Sunday, August 16, 2026

Fintry Provincial Park (BC Parks photo)

On the evening of May 11, 2026, my friend and I were enjoying a peaceful after-dinner walk with our small dogs in Fintry Provincial campground.

Suddenly, we saw a pit bull charging at us from site 135, dragging a leash behind it.

We picked up our dogs.

The pitbull slammed into me, knocking me to the ground with my dog in my arms.

My friend saw that the pitbull had my dog by the tail.

She then saw a man and a woman run from the campsite. The woman tried unsuccessfully to restrain the dog. The man managed to wrestle it off me and drag it back into their campsite.

Fortunately, my dog suffered only one small abrasion on her hind end. I had scrapes on both of my feet and ankles and later developed bruising on the left side of my body, painful enough that I couldn’t lay on that side for a few nights.

While I’m grateful that we weren’t seriously injured, the event was terrifying.

I’ve spent the weeks since the attack writing emails, making phone calls, asking questions and waiting for responses. Here’s what I’ve learned:

• Regional District dog control officers have no jurisdiction in provincial parks and are powerless to help.

• RCMP cannot lay charges as there was no criminal act.

• Fintry park attendants seemed shocked and wanted to help; however, the operators/management demonstrated very little concern or empathy.

• Parks BC has the authority to impose “monetary penalties” on campers whose pets are not under control, but to my knowledge, they have not.

• I was told by park attendants that the aggressive dog would be banned from Fintry Campground, but how this would be implemented is unclear. I proposed to the Minister of Environment and Parks that dogs entering provincial campgrounds be registered with their license number, just as vehicles are. That way, there would be a system for keeping track of dogs and identifying them. To date, I’ve had no response to my suggestion.

If you, your children and/or your pets enjoy camping at Fintry Provincial Campground (or, to my understanding, any provincial campground in B.C.), please be aware.

If you are attacked by a dog, you’re on your own.

Pregnant Topeka dog attack victim breaks silence nearly 1 month after incident. Date of attack: July 17, 2026. Kansas.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A pregnant Topeka woman is recovering after a dog attack left her with serious injuries, while the dog’s owner faces charges from Topeka’s Municipal Court.

Audrey Austin, who is expecting twins, said she was attacked at the Highland Park Townhomes on July 17. Austin said she was disoriented during the attack and did not immediately know where her injuries were coming from.

“I didn’t know where the blood was coming from. I didn’t know it was coming from my face. I thought it was coming from my stomach, so I was blocking my stomach the best that I can,” Austin said.

Victim returns home despite attack

Despite the severity of the attack, Audrey said she chose to return to her residence.

“No dog is going to keep me from going home,” she said.

Austin said she does not blame the dogs for the attack.

“For those who have dogs, just know that there are dogs out there that are sweet and innocent. It’s the owners and how you raise them,” she said.

Owner cited

Tina Buck was identified as the owner of the dogs and was issued a municipal citation for dangerous dogs. Shawnee County Jail records show Buck was also booked on charges of interfering with law enforcement and having dogs running at large. Buck has since posted bond.

Austin tells 13 NEWS she is seeking justice for herself and her unborn children.

“You had hurt not just one life, but you had hurt three lives. You almost cost three lives that night that I almost lost not just mine, but my twins,” Austin said. “You might have knocked me down; that might have been a setback, but who I am today is not going to destroy me or what I am going to be like after my twins are here.”

Twins reported in good health

Austin said she will be 28 weeks pregnant on Monday and that her babies remain in good health. She is expected to deliver in November.

Buck is expected to appear back in court in September. The second dog involved in the attack remains in custody.

A GoFundMe was created to help with Audrey’s recovery; you can donate here.

Woman cleared of owning XL bully which fatally bit man. Wrexham,,UK. 23 May 2026.

A woman has been cleared of owning an XL bully dog that bit her partner's father, causing him to bleed to death.

Chanel Fong, 33, was accused of owning the dog, Cookie, which was dangerously out of control and of an alternative charge of being the person in charge of the animal at the time of the attack.

She was found not guilty of both by the jury at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Her partner's father, Keven Jones, 62, from Chester, died from severe blood loss after being bitten on the leg.

Keven Jones, victim.

The attack took place before XL Bullies were added to the banned dog list.

The court heard Keven Jones had been in poor health and had been taking methadone and blood thinning medication, and had been staying at Fong's Wrexham home in May 2022.

Fong said the dog belonged to her partner Joshua Jones, who was not present when his father was bitten, although the prosecution claimed she was Cookie's joint owner.

The court was told there had been a number of dogs at the home on Holt Road in Wrexham, including two XL Bullies, called Fire and Rogue.

Rogue was Cookie's mother and in season at the time, so had to be kept separate from other dogs.

At about 11:30 BST on 23 May, Jones told Fong he would get Cookie and another dog in from the garden, but he was then heard shouting at Cookie to "get off" him.

The court heard Fong also called into the garden for Cookie to get down, which is when Jones came towards her "wobbly".

He pointed to his leg, which was pumping blood, and he said to Fong, "he's got me there".

Fong called the emergency services and attempted first aid, including applying pressure to the wound, but Jones could not be saved.

A post-mortem examination said he had died from extreme blood loss caused by dog bites.

Cookie was later humanely euthanised.

\"Cookie\"

Keven Jones died after being bitten by an American XL Bully called Cookie

Giving evidence in her defence Fong said Joshua Jones, her partner, had organised all breeding and registration of the dogs.

She said she got on with Keven Jones "really well", and he had owned several dogs during his life, including a boxer and a "Bully breed" at the time of his death.

Fong admitted she had "underestimated" the risk Cookie posed.

The jury took just three hours to reach their not guilty verdicts on both charges.

Fong wept as the unanimous verdicts were read out and hugged family and friends after being released from the dock.

People watched in horror as man tried to fight off dog attack in Flint. August 8th 2026. Wales UK.

Matthew Roberts, 44, was walking his Labrador Parker near their home in Flint when a dog described as a pocket bully raced towards them and sank its teeth into the Labrador.

A father-of-three said he was forced to fight off a dog he described as a pocket bully that was attacking his Labrador. Matthew Roberts, 44, took his dog Parker for an evening stroll near their Flint home on Saturday night.

However, as they walked along Halkyn Road at 10pm, Matthew said a dog charged towards them and attacked Parker, clamping its jaws into the Labrador. Matthew said he struggled to make the animal loosen its hold—seizing and twisting its collar, then pinning the dog down to restrain it.

Officers arrived, and he assisted them in getting the dog into the patrol car, he said Parker, aged seven, needed £700 worth of veterinary treatment and although Matthew avoided being bitten, he was left disturbed by the ordeal, reports

He has also been left frustrated with the police, alleging they handed the dog back to the owner "within an hour" of the incident. Matthew maintains more checks should have been carried out to safeguard others and has submitted a complaint.

He said he has subsequently been informed by an inspector that some of the police actions regarding the other dog are ongoing.

Recounting the attack, he said, "We were walking along, and out of nowhere this dog charged at Parker. The dog—one of these pocket bully-type dogs—went for his throat, but due to the size of Parker, he ended up gripping him just under his shoulder.

"Parker was just yelping and squealing. I tried to kick the dog, but he would not let go, and I then grabbed his collar and twisted it to tighten it around his neck. It was only then that he finally let go, and I sat on the dog to control it.

"Each time I loosened my grip—which I had to do to allow it to breathe—it would growl at me. I knew I could not let him loose. At this point a crowd of people had come out of their homes due to the noise. Someone called the police, and there was a blue light response.

"Two police officers arrived—they told me to not let go of the dog, as they were clearly worried about this dog being loose and out of control.

"Myself and one of the officers then managed to carry the dog into the back of the patrol car. The whole incident was just horrific.

"The police checked if I had been bitten, but I was okay. They took details about the incident and said I would receive an update by the following night."

Injuries after Labrador dog Parker attacked in Flint

Matthew said he heard nothing, so opted to call at approximately 10pm on Sunday. One of the officers then rang him back later that evening.

He said he was informed the dog had been handed back to the owner in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He said, "This dog had escaped and attacked another dog. I believe checks needed to be done on the dog and the owners and their premises. There should have been more action and recommendations; it feels like they just went with the easiest option that night.

"This was a pocket bully-type dog with a huge mouth. If I had not been there, I've no doubt that it would have killed Parker, who was no threat to it at all, he was just walking along on his lead.

"I'm no Crocodile Dundee but I'm 15 stone and reasonably strong and fit. If this was someone smaller, like one of my children, then it would have been very different. Parker is also a decent-sized 40 lb. lab; a small dog or a child would not have stood a chance."

Parker required several hours of veterinary treatment on Sunday. Under an anesthetic, he received stitches to repair the injury, and the vet confirmed he had sustained soft tissue and shoulder bone damage.

The bill totalled £700.

Matthew added, "He seems to be okay but he doesn't seem as confident; hopefully that will come back over time.

"I worry now that this dog is just roaming around. I don't really want to let one of the children walk the dog anymore because if this had been any other member of my family, the dog would be dead now.

"If the dog had killed Parker, he would have been put down; if he had bitten me, then police would have done something. The only reason the dog didn't kill Parker was because I stopped him and I was just fortunate that what I did worked."

He has submitted a complaint to North Wales Police regarding their handling of the incident. He added: "This dog could attack another dog or a child."

Since first speaking with North Wales Live, an inspector made contact to provide further details regarding the action already taken, as well as additional measures planned in response to the incident.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said, "Shortly after 10pm on 8 August, officers responded to a public safety concern in the Flint area, where it was reported a Labrador had been attacked by another dog.

"Thankfully, no member of the public was injured during the incident, which did not meet the criteria for prosecution under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

"The dog was seized by officers at the scene to mitigate any further public safety risk and later returned to its owner.

"We recognize the impact attacks on pets can have on owners, and we take all incidents seriously. Officers have contacted the owner of the Labrador to update on action taken and other preventative safeguarding provided in such matters, in which owners are reminded of the law and their responsibilities as a dog owner to reduce the likelihood of a similar incident happening again."

She said: “The dogs didn’t have leads on and the owner, who hadn’t been around, eventually appeared.

“He took two of the dogs away but the third one continued to chase Roxy.

“Eventually I managed to get Roxy to safety but she was in a mess.”

Roxy treated for deep wounds and bruised lungs

Claire took Roxy to the PDSA where she received treatment for deep puncture wounds to her back, flank and paws.

“Roxy is ok but she’s still shaking and very afraid.”

Claire said that after speaking to neighbours she was informed that the dogs have previously attacked other dogs in the area as well as a child.

She said: “I know that police have spoken to him before and he’s meant to keep the dogs on leads but they weren’t when they attacked Roxy.

“She’s a very lucky girl but I want this out there and for it to stop before there’s another attack.

“I’m so lucky and I’m so grateful to the PDSA for acting so quickly but this could have ended so much worse.”

Police Scotland said they were informed of the incident but that it was a matter for the dog warden.

Breed is not confirmed but described in article as a "bull-type dog," Lancashire, UK, July 3rd 2026.

Dog attack victim 'thought she was going to die'

Rosie says she was bitten 17 times

ByEmma Stanley, North West and Sumaiya Motara, North West

  • Published 5 hours ago

A woman said she was left in "excrutiating pain" after being bitten 17 times by a bull-type dog that attacked several people in a village.

Rosie, 40, was bitten at about midday on 3 July after stopping her car to help a woman near a petrol station on Lancaster Road in Cockerham, Lancashire,.

She said the woman's dog attacked her, and she "genuinely thought [she] was going to die".

Lancashire Police said it had received numerous reports of a dog attacking people, but no arrests had been made and no animal has been seized.

Rosie said she was bitten after stopping her car to help a woman near to the petrol station on Lancaster Road

Rosie, who runs a dog day care service in Catterall, said: "The pain is excruciating. I can't sit, I can't stand properly. I can't drive.

"It's more the psychological side of it. I can't sleep, I've got terrible flashbacks. I'm absolutely terrified. Every time I shut my eyes I'm reliving it.

"It was one of the most horrific things I've ever experienced, because I genuinely thought I was going to die."

Rosie said she had approached a woman in a car who looked to be struggling with a dog, but the dog turned and lunged for her, and bit her on her left hand.

"It just went from bad to worse after that," she said.

Rosie suffered injuries to her hand and legs

As Rosie turned to run away, the dog, which had no collar or lead, got hold of the backs of her legs, resulting in puncture wounds to her legs, shins, ankles, torso, and knees.

"I smashed my head on the road because the dog dragged me down to the floor and I've got extensive bruising everywhere. It's pretty horrific," said Rosie.

A passing lorry driver stopped to save the screaming victim, hitting the dog, which was on top of Rosie, with a makeshift weapon.

Melanie Moore said she was attacked on the same day

"That lorry driver saved my life without question," she said.

A young man and a woman were attacked earlier in the day.

Melanie Moore, from Pilling, saw the white and brown dog loose on Lancaster Road.

The 49-year-old said she suffered five deep muscle wounds from the bites, on her legs, ribcage and arm, before running into the petrol station for safety.

"I am literally black, blue, and purple. It's been bad," the office manager said.

"I have flashbacks, especially when I go to sleep. I just keep seeing its horrible face coming at me again. It's awful."

Melanie says the dog should be "seized and destroyed" to stop it from attacking others.

"You're supposed to be protected in this country. You can't just leave it to be a dog that's free to do it again. It's shocking."
