The Save Ben Solo campaign's digital rally yesterday inspired me to finish a short TROS fix-it I've been working on called "The Butterfly Knot."  I posted it in the campaign's SomehowBenReturned AO3 collection, and I encourage you to check out some of the other fics in the collection too.  

Aviendha69's "I will always be with you, Sweetheart," is bittersweet but hopeful, and Miscellaneous_Jo has added a couple more fun chapters to "Doppelganger Shenanigans" since it was first posted last year.  I especially like the Phasma chapter. And the fact that donuts are involved.

I had a Reylo clown moment at the grocery store today when I saw an issue of “Star Wars: The Ultimate Guide to the Complete Saga” on the magazine rack.

Now, if you were a Disney marketing person who wanted to sell tons of these magazines, who would you put front and center on the cover?  Young Han, Luke, and Leia?  The Mandalorian and Grogu?

Nope and nope.

They put Ben (with no mask) and Rey.

Disney wouldn’t make a cover like this if they were trying to sweep the Sequels under the rug, or if they thought the Original Trilogy characters were where all the money was.  And if the future of Star Wars was Rey, Finn, and Poe rebuilding the galaxy, I’d expect those three be the ones in the center, larger than everyone else (except Vader, ‘cuz ya know, he’s Vader).

But no, it’s Rey with Ben.  Not Kylo in a mask, not the raging Supreme Leader snarling on Crait.  Ben Solo, looking peaceful and resolved.  In short, it’s the dyad.

And you know what really makes me pull out my tinfoil hat?  It’s the fine print that says, “An Updated Reissue” and “Display until 8/7/2026.”  In other words, this cover design was a recent decision (maybe post-Iger?), and it’s going to be on display until August 7, exactly a week before D23 (The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where Disney likes to announce movies they expect to be future blockbusters). 

Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I really hope it means Disney is ignoring the haters and listening to all the people who say they want Ben back.  I hope it means that two months from now, we’re going to get an announcement about THFBS, or about Ben being part of the new Simon Kinberg trilogy.
