Bad Habits Die Hard
Throne adjusted. Kit adjusted. Hands, working on it but that elbow just won't stay down. I think thats just the way the kid plays. He starts down and then as he gets into it it just sticks out.

I'm practising this from a youtube tutorial cause its school holidays and no drum lessons. I know I am doing something very, very wrong. Why can't I play this?
A question for musicians who earn the majority of their income through performing....Did you do a music degree out of high school or study at a music school full-time or did you just gig, meet people, make connections and get the majority of your paid work that way?
Here's a short clip from tonight's performance. As always any feedback appreciated. Video quality isn't the best.
He's been told to get out and starting gigging so here is a clip of a live performance.
I know it's barely 24 hours since the first post however I just took video of today's practice where he has rearranged his kit, adjusted his stool and is trying to correct those elbows. Thanks again for all the tips that were given so thoughtfully - he's never been critiqued before and it could have gone the opposite way but he took it on board and made immediate changes.
Would love advice.

Plays on an acoustic kit at home and practices 1 hour per day. About to start increasing his practice towards 3 hours per day. We have no sound proofing options in our home for where we locate his kit and although we, luckily, have 3 understanding next door neighbours I don't want to push the boundaries. What suggestions for ongoing longer practices? Practice pads, electronic kit? The idea would be to do 1 hour acoustic practice and 2 hours another way.
My 15 year old would like to drum full-time after leaving school. He is well aware that its hard to make a living in the industry. His Dad and I fully support his choice and will help in all ways possible. Could anyone share tips to help him navigate the path ahead. As parents what should we do? He has drum lessons weekly. He's about to start piano lessons. He is in a band at his school. He practices most days all while incorporating sports and a small part time job. Should we still encourage him to keep it fun for now or, or what else?
