Slime Taxonomy
Hi everyone, as we all probably know, it's summer break, meaning that I've got way too much time on my hands. And as a high school pharmacy student, who got traumatized by pharmaceutical botany and having to learn the Latin taxonomy of plants, I thought that it would be fun to classify the slimes, or now know to me as the Liquiformae, from both slime rancher games into families and give them all Latin names. Please note that I did this only for fun and to relive my botanical nightmares. I am not a taxonomist nor an expert in Latin.
So all animals of the Far, Far Ranch belong to the kingdom Animalia (Animals)
Animalia has two classes: Solida (The solid animals) and Liquiformae (The slimes)
I'm gonna mainly talk here about the slimes, though, I am working on the Solida, which will be pretty much only chickens.
So, the Liquiformae are split into three orders: Parva (the regular or "small" slimes), Larga (the largos) and Gorda (the gordos)
Please note that only the Parva and Gorda are further split into families, since the largos are mixtures of multiple slimes, so their families might mix and it would just be a nightmare in my opinion, maybe I'll revist it in the future. Also the Gorda have the same families as the Parva, only the naming of the gordos is different.
So now, let's talk about regular slimes, the Parva, they are split into a total of 9 families:
- Roseidae (the pink-like slimes)
- Feloidae (the cat-like slimes)
- Saxoidae (the rock-like slimes)
- Luxidae (the light-emitting slimes)
- Perliquidae (the liquidy slimes)
- Caelidae (the sky slimes)
- Animaloidae (the animal-like slimes)
- Plantoidae (the plant-like slimes)
- Metaphysicidae (the metaphysical slimes)
First lets go over the Roseidae, there are 6 slime species here and its the largest family of slime.
- Roseum vulgaris - Pink slime
- Meloidum dulcis - Honey slime
- Flavum veloxum - Hyper slime
- Roseum explosivum - Boom slime
- Roseum radioactivum - Rad slime
- Roseum aurum - Gold slime
Also while roseum literally means pink, I use it more as a name for slimes that to me somehow resemble the pink slime, the rad slime is just a radioactive pink slime, the same for the gold slime and the boom slime, well I think of it as more of a direct evolution of the pink slime and I didn't wanna give it its own family, again I'm not a taxonomist.
Next we have the Feloidae, there are 4 slimes in this family:
- Feloidum cinereum - Tabby slime
- Feloidum brunum - Hunter slime
- Saberum antiquum - Saber slime
- Feloidum pecuniae - Lucky slime
Next the Saxoidae, there are only 3 slimes here:
- Saxoidum vulgaris - Rock slime
- Saxoidum crystallinum - Crystal slime
- Saxoidum luxi - Mosaic slime
The Luxidae, one of the two 2-slime families:
- Caerelum luxi - Phosphor slime
- Piscoidum luxi - Angler slime
I put the angler slime here and not in Animaloidae, because compared to the others in there it produces light on its own (at least thats what I gathered from the wiki)
Next the Perliquidae, 4 slimes:
- Liquiforma aqua - Puddle slime
- Liquiforma magma - Fire slime
- Liquiforma ovum - Yolky slime
- Liquiforma metallica - Quicksilver slime
The Caelidae, the second 2-slime family:
- Planetoidum vortexi - Dervish slime
- Nuboidum somni - Sloomber slime
I picked Caelidae from the word caelum - sky, because I thought both slimes had to do with something to do with weather, dervish - whirlwind, sloomber - clouds. Really don't look too deeply into it.
The Animaloidae:
- Cuniculoidum gossypium - Cotton slime
- Insectoidum alatum - Flutter slime
- Vespertilioidum noxi - Batty slime
The Plantoidae, the smallest family:
- Roseum vitineum - Tangle slime
And finally the Metaphysicidae:
- Digitalum errorum - Glitch slime
- Spectroidum absurde - Quantum slime
- Roseum duplex - Twin slime
- Spectroidum umbrae - Shadow slime
Aaand that's it for the Liquiformae, I am also working on the chickens currently, but I have no idea, when that will be done, but anyway, thank you so much for reading this novel and please tell me what you think. Also this is all done purely based on my opinion so don't be angry about certain ways I classified the slimes.
