To anyone who landed an IB internship from Rotman, what did your profile actually look like?
Incoming first-year here, trying to get a realistic picture of what it takes to break into IB from Rotman. I know the generic advice (network early, join clubs, keep grades up), but I want to hear from people who actually went through it.
Specifically curious about:
- GPA: what did yours look like when you were recruiting? Is there a hard cutoff at the banks you applied to?
- Clubs: which ones actually helped you technically, and made you a stronger candidate? (RCFA, RCIF, RCSF, RCVC, etc.) Were you in leadership or just a member?
- Extracurriculars/projects: did anything outside of clubs help? Personal stock pitches, case comps, any certification, DCF modelling, anything?
- Networking: how many coffee chats before you got the interview? Did you go through the club recruiting pipeline or cold outreach?
- Timeline: when did you start prepping and when did the process actually kick off?
- Influence: what do you think was the most important from the above list or something else, that helped you the most to get the internship? (GPA, networking, projects, etc)
Not looking for sugarcoated stuff, if you fumbled something or wish you'd done it differently, I'd honestly love to hear that too.
Thanks in advance.
