I’ve had Visual Snow Syndrome my entire life. Now I have chronic migraines and don’t know where to turn.
Hi everyone,
I’m 18 years old and from the Czech Republic.
I haven’t been officially diagnosed with Visual Snow Syndrome yet, but after learning about it recently, I’m almost certain this is what I’ve had my entire life.
I first noticed something was wrong when I was around 10 years old. I realized I wasn’t seeing the world the same way as everyone else. I told my mom, and we went to an eye doctor. After the examination, I was told that my eyes were perfectly healthy and that I was probably imagining it.
A few years later I saw another ophthalmologist. The only thing they found was slightly elevated eye pressure, but once again I was told that everything else was normal.
Since I was about 12, I’ve spent countless hours searching the internet, trying to find someone who sees what I see. I only found information about floaters, but that wasn’t even close.
What I see is **constant visual static 24/7**. It has never disappeared.
The worst part is at night. The static becomes so intense that I struggle to see in the dark. I often have to use my phone flashlight just to walk outside because I can barely see anything. It honestly feels like I’m almost blind in low-light conditions.
For years I just accepted it because I thought there was nothing I could do.
Then, when I was around 16, I started developing severe headaches, pain around my eyes, eyebrows and forehead, and migraines. Over the last two years they’ve become progressively worse.
So far I’ve had:
a normal brain MRI,
multiple neurologists,
several eye examinations,
triptans and different migraine medications,
but nothing has really helped.
Only recently I discovered Visual Snow Syndrome, and when I saw simulations of it for the first time, I almost cried because it was **exactly** what I’ve been seeing my whole life.
Now I’m wondering if my migraines could be related to VSS. I’ve read that migraines are common in people with Visual Snow Syndrome.
The hardest part is that almost nobody in my country knows about this condition. I don’t know which doctor to see anymore.
So I wanted to ask:
Does anyone here have both **Visual Snow Syndrome and chronic migraines**?
Has anything actually helped you? (Lamotrigine, Topamax, FL-41 glasses, or anything else?)
Does anyone know a doctor or clinic in Europe that specializes in VSS?
Has anyone here participated in research or a clinical trial?
I’m honestly feeling really lost. I’m only 18, and these constant migraines are taking away so much of my life.
