Got an escooter and love my car independent life in LA

I've been trying to use my car less especially for stupidly short trips and getting a scooter has made that a lotttt easier.

We live in LA so I'm not pretending I'm living some completely car-free lifestyle . There are places where I'm still taking the car.

But it has helped me replace it for atleast 60% of nearby trips.

Right now I am using scooter

-For all nearby trips

- For quick coffee stop

- for getting bread/milk and eggs (because I need to get them every 2 days for some reason)

My scooter (hiboy S3) has been pretty nice for this because it's small which I really like. Like the switch from car to scooter is soo refreshing at times..

I also like that life with scooter is kinda pretty straightforward. I don't need to plan a whole ride around it. If I want to go somewhere nearby I just grab it and go.

And TBH the biggestttt and most fvrt thing for me is that I get to avoid parking part.

You know when you drive somewhere that's literally 10 minutes away and then spend another 10 minutes looking for somewhere to park? Yeah. Not having to do that is great.

I've also started noticing how much more I pay attention to the neighborhood when I'm riding instead of driving. I see little stores which I didnt know exist. For eg the other day I realized we had a tech shop in our neighorhood (and I still got everything online smh)

Obviously I dont use it for every trip and there are roads around LA where its pretty hard to ride on scooter. But for the short stuff it's very useful and helped me be a little independent of my car.

3 months with my P6 and I’m surprised how much I enjoy exploring trails I would normally avoid

When I first got my fat tire mountain-bike, I honestly thought I'd mostly stick to smoother trails and casual rides.

Three months later, I’ve ended up taking it on way more rough paths than I expected. Gravel, uneven trails, dirt roads , places where I’d normally slow down and pick my lines carefully.

The thing that surprised me most is how much the bigger tires change the ride. It feels a lot more stable when the ground gets unpredictable, and I don’t feel like every little bump is fighting against me.

It’s definitely not replacing my regular bike for every type of ride, but for exploring and just going out without worrying too much about the terrain, it’s been a lot of fun.

I would love to hear similar stories. Keeps me motivated to try my next ride.

First year at UCLA, should I keep my scooter out in the parking? I have lock, what else do I need?

Hey you guys I'm a first-year at UCLA. I tweaked my knee a while back playing basketball, and walking all over campus every day with a heavy backpack has been getting pretty on my nerves and also I've got of back-to-back classes. Got a scooter to tackle with the situation.

I have got a lock ofcourse, but I'm a little paranoid about theft. Also curious what common issues you guys run into here (if you ride it) and where do you guys leave it during classes.
