L5/S1 Lumbar discectomy

23 years old
Hi all, after months of back pain, a CT guided cortisone injection, physiotherapy, accupuncture, thinking i was recovering only to now be right back where i started my GP has sent me to see a specialist today who ordered an MRI (see photo) and has reccomended a lumbar discectomy as a potential fix, what i want to know is, im still quite young, is this now going to be something that affects the rest of my adult life, how much while i be limited in what im able to do in terms of work and physical activity and how long can i expect the recovery time to be, mainly because the gym is sort of my only enjoyable part of my life and obviously this has put a dampener on that, thanks for your knowledge and time
