Voicemail-to-Text completely stopped working on Samsung (Google Fi backend issue)
I am a Samsung s24 user using the official Phone by Google and Google Messages apps on Google Fi. My voicemail-to-text transcriptions completely stopped working -- I think a few weeks ago, causing me to miss a backlog of voicemails.
What I have already verified:
- The "Voicemails by text" toggle is ON in the Google Fi app.
- Google Messages and Google Fi apps have 100% of their permissions allowed (including SMS, Phone, and background battery set to unrestricted).
- RCS Chats status is verified as "Connected."
- I checked Google Messages for Web on my Chromebook, and the voicemail text transcriptions do not exist on the cloud server side either. The network is completely failing to generate or broadcast the text packets.
- The transcriptions, or part of them, do appear in my systems notifications screen. I never noticed them before trying to solve them. They probably were there and I missed them before clearing, but I can't be sure.
Google Fi Tier 1 phone support tried to tell me I have to turn on "Visual Voicemail" in the Google Phone app, which is a grayed-out option restricted on non-Pixel devices and completely incorrect for this feature.
I asked for a case number twice from Google Fi Tier 1 support, but they wouldn't give me one....just said to call back. So it seems these unsuccessful techs aren't even logging my problem.
@u/googlefisupport — Can someone please escalate my case to a Tier 2 network engineer? Gemini AI says my cellular provisioning profile clearly needs a manual refresh/rebuild on the network towers to kickstart the voicemail-by-SMS system for my line.
Of course Gemini AI may not be any better than Tier 1 phone support. Certainly they both go around in circles and rely on standard scripts that don't apply.
