Training A New Hire

So is it normal to have to train someone new while being new yourself?? I’ve only been working as a host for not even 2 weeks and I’m being forced to train someone new. I had to yesterday and then again on Monday (it’s the same person) and I don’t even know how to train them because I’m still learning how to do everything and still have to ask questions myself. I’m about to call my boss and get this figured out but I figured I would ask more experienced people is this is normal or not.

Memorial Day Weekend

So idk if this is how it is at other Chilis or not but at mine we aren’t allowed to ask off the day before or the day of a holiday. I just started hosting a few weeks ago and I made 100% sure to mention in my interview that I would not be able to work on Memorial Day due to me being 5 hours away and not having a way back until that night. I was told it would be fine as long as I put it in 2 weeks in advance but now that it’s at least 2 weeks in advance, I’m getting denied. Do I tell my manager that I absolutely cannot work that day and if they schedule me they won’t have a host in the morning, or do I wait and see if I can swap a shift with someone?
