Here's a concept I drew out out for a Sylvanian Barn Owl Family!

Ophelia Hollow is a wise potion maker, she spends her days running an apothecary shop and teaching her little one. She loves the smell of fragrant herbs and the dim lights of candles.

Theodore Hollow is a beloved professor. He can always be found with a good book, cozied up with his family. He believes there's always more to learn.

Woodsy Hollow is a curious little fellow. His favorite words are What? Why? and How? He wants to follow in both of his parents footsteps.

I love when the couples aren't an exact copy of each other, so Theodore has darker feathers. I'm not a huge fan of the existing Sylvanian Owl designs, the old ones look intense and the new ones are not very owl-ish. I also wanted to give them real outfits, I imagine their body type is like the penguins, just with feathers on the wing. The feet would be plastic like the penguins as well.

I went for an academic aesthetic for them, with far more detail then I think a regular family would get, but I can dream.

Just got back from a family trip to Japan! I had a few Calico Critters growing up but was in that in-between stage of not playing with toys anymore but also not wanting to collect or display anything. While in Japan I saw the seal family and fell absolutely in love. Sylvanian Families are my newest hyperfixation and I cannot wait to thrift and make things for them.

I got the Seal family, the Snow Leopard family and the Penguin Family.

If you find yourself in Japan they're very reasonably priced at Bic Camera and Yodabashi. I paid about $18 for each set. My brother travels to Japan often and I will be bringing him to start bringing me more families.
