Google and Duck Duck Go keep letting me down. What is the best way to search for information?

TL;DR, search engines are terrible. How do I find information I need for using some of these programs? How do I learn what information I need vs when I've found what I actually need?

Today I spent some time trying to get my old HOTAS working on CachyOS. I found something called gx52 and saw that I can install the flatpak to make it easy. Neato! Just one thing: I didn't know how to use Shelly.

Cool. I search "CachyOS How do I use Shelly?" on Duck Duck Go and get the CachyOS wiki. It explains what Shelly is, but in my mind, not what I need to know to start using it. I toggle over to Google and get a couple feedback posts on some forums before finding a guide.

STEP 1. Synchronize databases. Cool, I can do that. Where's the button?

Button? You there?

There's no button.

So I search around some more, including the version number I grabbed from the bottom of the Shelly window to find that there is no longer a button. I don't find that from any links in the searches, I had to fight with the LLM and tell it the sync button is gone before I learn that Shelly syncs databases every five minutes after an update this August. Sounds like a good thing for it to do, but Google and Duck Duck Go failed to find the most pertinent information for me again.

How do you all search for information you need before installing or using new software?

Build your Insulated Conductive Wire quickly in high temperature applications.

Today I spent a fair amount of time wondering why my geothermal power build I'm working on kept getting filled with sour gas. Turns out if a material is placed in a build order and not immediately built, it will heat up. I kept having the plastic from my insulated wire flash into sour gas because the diamond tiles it was placed inside were too hot.

Build your insulated wires on high priority.

Using KDE Plasma and want to automount a storage drive? DON'T USE THE GUIDE IN THE WIKI. There's an oh, so simple method you already have: KDE Partition Manager.

I have spent ten hours fighting with Konsole and the wiki, reinstalled the OS three times, and failed to mount the drive while allowing Steam to download to the drive every single time.

I gave up.

I was debating a different distro or even goung back to my old Windows PC because I was clearly incapable of following what was claimed to be the simplest and safest instructions. I decided that, since I'd clearly failed to escape the specter of AI, might as well ask the parasite infesting Google if it could hallucinate me into a deeper pit.

Three steps. That's it. I needed to clarify I was on KDE Partition manager, and it gave me instructions. I found another issue, and it walked me through the permission trap.

I'm downloading onto my secondary drive now.

[Use this.](https://linuxbsdos.com/2025/03/31/add-automount-hard-disk-linux-using-kde-partition-manager/) For the sake of your continued sanity, use this. The guide should not be chucking you in the deep end with the CLI and nebulous commands when the default runtime has a program with a gui. It should not claim that the simplest method involves splitting your CLI into two windows so you can copy your UUID from one half and paste into the text document you're writing in the other half. The guide needs one hell of an overhaul.

How do I move my system tray popups to snap to the screen edge and task bar?

Good morning, apologies if this has been asked before but I was not able to find anything on Google or DuckDuckGo.

I'm a new Linux user who's moved over to CachyOS and am using KDE Plasma. When I get a message or a notification popup from my system tray, the popup is spaced about a centimeter above the taskbar and in from the screen edge. I would like these popups to snap to the taskbar and the edge of the screen, similar to Windows. I have disabled floating on the taskbar, and have disabled the "Near notification icon" setting but the spacing is still there. How do I adjust the popup location?

Edit: For clarification, I mean things like notifications that pop up for email clients, Steam, or Discord to inform you of a message or a game install finishing. I took a screenshot too. I wrote this without finishing enough of my coffee this morning. Thank you for the help!

Setting up a fresh install of CachyOS, and trying to mount a drive, but the systemd-escape name is incorrect.

As the title says, I'm trying to automount an ext4 drive using the CachyOS Guide here. It has failed every time with the message "Invalid unit name "home-[REDACTED]-Storage Drive 1.mount" escaped as "home-[REDACTED]-Storage\x20Drive\X201.mount". If I try to mount without the \x20 sections, it fails as well, reading Unit home-[REDACTED]-Storage.service does not exist. I've replaced my username with [REDACTED], it is not my username in the system.

I do not understand what I am doing wrong. I have followed the above guide to the letter. I continue to fail every time. The drive has been freshly formatted in ext4 all in one partition. I have recreated the mount file six times, carefully making sure everything is spelled correctly. I have made sure the mount file is in line with the guide. I have saved the file. I don't know why it doesn't work.

My OS is up to date. I have installed the gaming packages and some flatpacks for Discord, Steam, VLC player, and Thunderbird. I have installed nothing else.

Should I not be trying to use a space in my file or folder names at all, even though the guide has instructions on how to do exactly that? Why is it so hard to find out why the escaped name is wrong?

Why am I mounting secondary storage drives as folders in the file system?

I'm a Windows refugee who's been with Microsoft all my life. I remember using Windows 98 in elementary school. It's all I've known.

Now I'm on CachyOS after a brief tryst with Bazzite Gnome, and I'm learning that I have a lot to learn. Case in point: Why am I mounting secondary storage drives as folders in the file system?

I'm used to extra storage showing up as another drive in the system. What benefit is there to having the drive appear as a normal folder, and what complications can I expect from this mounting layout?

Thanks for the help!

I placed my first order the other day and got a tracking number in my email today. I tried checking USPS, UPS, and FEDEX, only to find my tracking information is for a shipping service called UniUni.

I have never heard of this group.

Yeah, it's just a drink mix, and yeah I only bought a basic, boring, boobless cup, but that's still $40 out of my pocket and into the hands of a shipping service with no reputation. Edit: Wow, I was wrong. A few minutes online, and they have worse than no reputation: They have a reputation for not delivering at all, losing packages in the warehouse for months, and just straight up stealing the package.

If I'm already paying $11.26 for shipping, why can't that money go towards a reputable service? USPS charged roughly the same amount for a heavier package shipping the same distance. Can't we send my package through them? Who the hell is Uniuni?
