Yes, I bought it.. but do I regret it?

I’ve owned this bike for 6 months. I’m debating selling it but I can’t seem to do so yet.

I had to iron out a few tweaks after she sat for so long. Third ride, final drive grenaded out the side of the engine case. Oil went everywhere and I found a coin size hole in my crankcase.

Thank God I paid for a warranty, would have cost 7k+ for repairs. Fortunately I only had to cover clutch plates. On the bright side, I now have a new transmission and clutch plates plus other engine parts.

After getting it back, I shortly had to send it back off for a crankcase reseal as it was not properly done so after the rebuild. I had to cover the diagnose fee but I do feel like that was their mistake for not doing it properly the first time and was pretty salty about paying for that.

Now… she’s having compression issues. Under VERY spirited driving, she gets bogged down. Throttle backs off, RPMs dip and then it comes back on sluggishly. No issues unlesss I’m getting after it, you know… on the track…

I have a consultation scheduled with my favorite Ducati mechanic from another shop. Depending on how that goes will determine if I keep it.

I’ve ridden other Ducati’s. But none take the cake in terms of thrill. V4s are probably better suited for sustained high speeds, better quick shifter and such. However, this bike is raw, unrelenting and Hot… will be sad if I see her go. No bike except the late 90s early 10s era of 916 bike come close to the sleek style, lack of aggressive curves and overall look.

As mentioned in a post almost two weeks ago, I was deciding between two Ducati’s. I ended up going 1299 and oh my what an amazing 3 rides it was…

Third ride on my way home I noticed I couldn’t get my foot to stick to the peg. Glanced down and my foot was covered in oil. Pulled it off the highway and shut it down. Engine oil was smoking and burning everywhere.

Got it home and parked it and left it for the night. Honestly I was too mad to even look at it. Today I regrouped after days of researching and chatting to my local Ducati dealer. They told me if it sat ducks can have dry valve cover gasket’s and it’s common for those to go. I removed the panels and topped the oil off before starting it only to watch oil spurt out the side.

Shoutout to motorcycles of Charlotte. Those dudes talked me through my first Desmo and have been amazing guys.

Tampa bay Ducati not so much… I have tried to contact my sales rep numerous times even asking small questions or seeing if they could work with me if I brought it back to them from Charlotte to Tampa. Nothing, no response.

The one… silver lining… I purchased an engine warranty cause I knew if anything went wrong on this bike It would sting.

I don’t know what I’ll do after it’s fixed. The bike is incredible but I’ve lost all confidence in it. My hesitation is the mods. It’s easily got 12-15k in aftermarket evo tech, CNC, full titanium exhausts, clutch covers, ohlins, powder coated wheel, rear sets and more. It’s LOADED that was the whole reason I bought it and drove 9hrs. It’s gorgeous.

I’ve never felt a bike that feels as alive as this one but I might ditch it for a v4 after it’s fixed. I’ve seen a lot of these with high miles and this one only had 5k.
