Those with Hypermotards, I have a few questions if you don't mind...

I'm looking to buy a motard, and there are a few things bugging me.

  1. I vowed I would never go back to timing belts. HMs only have belts. How often is the changeover internal, and do you find it a burden?

  2. I probably won't go base model because I love my slipper clutch. So, for those who've ridden the RVE and SP, are there noticeable differences through the twisties?

  3. What are the main positives & negatives of a HM?

  4. Is there a better bike similar to the Ducati hypermotard that you wish you purchased, or perhaps did purchase?

Thank you kindly in advance.

998R dream build almost done

Have been building this bike since December and it’s almost done. This bike has always been a dream and decided to do my dream spec. First ride upcoming this weekend! The build includes full ohlins setup, bst carbon wheel, radial brembo setup, Ducati race slipper clutch, Stack race dash, standalone ecu, quick shifter, adjustable triple tree, ceramic coated exhaust, and some other goodies. The bike will use a set of pearl white body work for now while the oringial carbon body work is restored and repainted. I can’t wait to rip on this bike!

'25 DesertX for an aggressive road rider that only occasionally plods down a gravel road?

I've been riding a 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro for the past few years, and I'm a little sick of it. Despite being a 19in front wheel, street focused adventure bike, it actually doesn't handle that well on the road. I've also run into a lot of reliability issues that have been taken care of under warranty so far, but my warranty is about to run up.

I've liked the looks of the DesertX since it was released. I'm also a big fan of the outgoing Testastretta engine, and like the idea of owning one of the last old school Desmo engines now that they've mostly been phased out. I can probably get a decent deal on this leftover '25 DesertX.

My only hang up is the 21/18 wheelset. I'm not a crazy off road rider; the most I'll do is BDR-type gravel and dirt roads with a baby water crossing here and there. I am however a very aggressive road rider. I ride A-group on trackdays and when I get to the mountains on my street rides I want to attack corners. I don't ride sport bikes on the street because I need to reign myself in somewhat, but I like my street bikes to at least feel good around corners even if they aren't actually fast.

I see I can get Scorpion Trail and Trail Attack tires in 21/18. Both of those are nice sporty options. Anyone here using a DesertX as a sport touring machine and enjoying it?

Edit to add: I'm not interested in a Multistrada V2, although that would be the obvious choice. Can't get past the beak, which is also something I dislike about my Tiger but it's not as bad on the Triumph.

Dealers hourly rates ?

Hi just had a service done on my multistrada here in Switzerland. 150 chf (usd 190 or £ 140) per hour. Out of interest, how much is charged your country. This was a small service so oil change brake oil change. Cost me chf 600.

Am I Crazy for Wanting a Diavel 1260 Instead of the New V4?

Don’t get me wrong I get that the new Ducatis are incredible and the current gen has a lot of upgrades over the previous models. But I feel like there are a couple of factors that keep pulling me back to the 1260 over the new V4:

  • Stating the obvious here, but I’d save about $11-$13k (CAD, I’m up in Vancouver). Am seeing lots of 2019-2022 1260s for about $18-$20k, whereas a 2025 V4 retails for around $31k.
  • V4 seems to have better brakes and slightly more HP, but the 1260 makes more torque at low-to-mid revs and I am more of a street rider than a track guy.
  • Electronics packages seem pretty comparable, other than the newer screen on the V4. The 1260 still has all the bells and whistles I feel like I would personally want (cornering ABS EVO, traction control, wheelie control, Ducati Power Launch, etc.).
  • I know people didn’t like the extra weight on the 1260 when it came out, but I have always felt a little nervous about riding light motorcycles. I don’t wanna get blown off the road if I’m riding through the mountains up here and high winds suddenly come up, plus it rains a lot out here so I feel like the extra weight might help me stay planted and make hydroplanning less likely, is this correct or do I have it wrong?

I also feel like the 1260s have a lot of really cool aftermarket mods available, whereas the aftermarket for the V4s is still kind of getting established. Here’s a couple of shots I found of a modded Diavel 1260 on Luimoto.com (it’s got one of their seat covers, plus what looks like Ohlins suspension although I think that comes standard on the “S” model).

Anyway, am I nuts? Am I being unfair to the V4 here, what am I missing? Would love to hear your thoughts before I drop major cash on the bike I’m probably going to ride for the next 5 yea

850km/528 mile day on a Panigale.

Wow, what a day. First and foremost no, it was not nearly as bad as you'd think. Its been years since I've done a day like this and it is my longest day ride on my 959. To give you an idea its more than the driving distance from Toronto to NYC. People make it seem like such a big deal doing long distances on a sport bike. I think wearing proper gear really helps support your body like a brace and the comfort seat definitely makes a difference. Its probably one of the best mods I did on this bike.

It was mostly twisty back roads, a range of long sweepers to tighter small ones. Some highway as well. The Panigale performed flawlessly, I was wearing leather riding pants and never felt the heat at all, I think its only an issue when in jeans, It was proper HOT hitting 30 degrees celsius or 86 farenheit. It was my first ride on brand new Diablo Rosso 4's and they are great tires.

The only thing I would change if I could is the handlebar thickness/grips. They're a lot thinner than my Vstrom so you have to clench you fist more and the stock grips themselves are thin and hard, a softer spongier one would be nice. All in all though I was surprised at the comfort. There were times I was wishing I was on my Vstrom but every time ai cracked open the throttle I was glad I took out the Ducati.

It was a long weekend and I missed all the weekend traffic because I went out on Monday so overall it was a very enjoyable 12 hr day of being on the road!

For those of you wondering I was averaging about 250km between tanks with 3-4 litres or about a gallon remaining when filling up. If pushed I think the bike can hit 300km which is pretty good range for sport bike.

V4 xDiavel lean angle

I’m having trouble exceeding/reaching 39 degree lean angle only on the left side, the front pegs keep scrape the pavement on the left side, I have way more lean angle on the right.

Any idea what might cause this?

Been going back and forth on letting my Sport 1000 go — anyone been through this?

It's so hard to let go!!! 5,807 miles. Garage kept its whole life out in Sag Harbor. Runs perfectly. I've had it long enough to know I'm not riding it enough to justify keeping it.

But every time I think I've made the decision, I take it out and remember why I bought it.

The SportClassic guys on here — did you sell yours? Regret it? These seem to be getting harder to find in clean shape and I'm not sure the market is going to get worse for sellers anytime soon, which makes it easier to rationalize holding on.

Just looking for some perspective from people who actually know what this bike is.

2026 SF V2S

Owned it 4 days, ridden it 400 miles.

Seeking recommendations for front windscreens, handle bar mirrors, and tail tidy.

Ducati offers it all but what else is out there?
