Recent remodel on my 196 year old kitchen

Long story short, the kitchen had built in place cabinets that were ruined over the years. I was able to keep the brick floors, the pine ceiling, and the fireplace. I put in new plumbing & electric, moved the gas line, new cabinets and countertops. I still have to do my backsplash & lighting and decide whether I’m going to paint the fireplace, probably going to replace the door and window trim if I can find some nice older stuff somewhere - but I’m pretty happy so far.

Update on my 196 year old kitchen

Finally had my granite installed today, and I love it. It’s hard to see my favorite aspects in pictures, but it has all these shimmery chunks throughout and it’s going to be great with the undercabinet lighting. I’m doing Philips Hue strip lights for that.

Now I can finally get to the backsplash, ceiling & undercabinet lighting, hang my stove hood, and then I’m probably going to paint the fireplace that’s in there also and put a new insert into it. I’d say I’m about 80% finished, 2 months into the project, and about 35k into it after running new plumbing & gas line as well as some new electrical. Did alot of the work myself, but some is just out of my range of abilities.

I know it isn’t the most modern, it’s not for everybody, and I don’t like the sink either 😂 but it was bought with the intention on using a different countertop and I can live with it. I’m going to give the brick on the floor a good scrub tonight and do a mineral spirit treatment on there as it seems to really bring it back to life.

While it isn’t what I imagine my dream kitchen to be by any means, it works with this old house and I think it still leaves some charm and character….. and it has been so much fun (and stressful).

Just curious if anyone has any other suggestions I can consider to add to the space, thanks!

Help with Philips Hue strip lights

So I want to add the Hue strip lights under the 36 inch cabinets to the right and left. Over the sink I have a floating shelf going in, and there will be an outlet where that little hole is in the gap between the green that is already there, and my Alexa Echo Show will also sit on there. I’m just curious what actual parts I need to be able to run them in both directions as all the YouTube’s I seen is basically just a straight strip and no real connecting with no actual lights under the gap like I want. I understand with these strip lights some wires show but I think with my setup it’ll be fairly unnoticeable. I’m open to other suggestions, I just really don’t want to drill into my new cabinets if possible. Thanks!

196 years young

Did some power washing on this old girl yesterday. Built in 1830, 4 bedrooms 2 baths. I’m just curious about what to do with the picket fence. Obviously my mind is telling me to paint it white again, but I’m also considering maybe staining it. Just curious about anyone’s thoughts or input. Thanks!

This is my granite slab, time to pick the backsplash color

So I had to go discuss the seams and installation on my countertops today. I plan on pulling the lightest cream color out of this slab I can find for my backsplash tiles, and I was just looking for some suggestions on specific colors. I’m a little color blind so this isn’t my strong suit at all. It has some cool tones in there, a few pockets of grey stones, the brown/gold/copper swirls, and some cool shiny gold flakes in there that sparkle when you look at it from different angles. It’s not the highest grade of granite ever but it’s also not low end at all, and it’s going to look great 🤞 I’ve gotten a lot of good advice from this Reddit and actually completely changed up a lot of stuff including my original planned countertop, so I figured I’d throw this out there for suggestions also.

My 3 year old Boerboel who I saved from an abusive situation when she was about 7 months old. She is very loyal, loving, and a total Velcro dog. Extremely protective and doesn’t like strangers, but is incredible with our family. Likes all food aside from lettuce, does tricks, and makes every day interesting for us!

This is my second run of Tirz. I ran the 2.5 for a month, 3.5 for the second month, and just went to 4.75 to start my 3rd. 5mg always seems to be my best dose, I never went any higher last time because I didn’t need to.

Well I took the shot Monday night. On Tuesday night I got hit with some diarrhea, eggy / sulfur burps and today I just feel blah. I know I could’ve rode the 3.5 out a bit more but I was at the end of a vile so I just used it up. Kind of regretting it today 😆

I hardly ever feel much for side effects from this medication, so I’m just kind of surprised. It’s actually worse today than it probably ever has been. I’m just surprised, it wasn’t that big of a jump up.

My slab finally came in, and it’s time to make some final decisions. I’m thinking about going all the way up to the ceiling above the stove and basically doing the whole wall, but I cant decide. Im most likely going with a light cream subway or square tile and painting the windows alabaster.
