I thought Heartstopper broke my heart..turns out it exposed my loneliness
Heartstopper made me realise how much I miss having close friends
I’m a 41-year-old man and I’m in a happy relationship, but after finishing Heartstopper I’ve been feeling unexpectedly emotional and melancholic.
At first I thought it was mainly because I related so much to Charlie and because I loved the way Nick cares for and protects him. But the more I think about it, the more I realise that it’s actually the friendship group that affects me the most.
I’ve never really had a close group of friends like that. People who know you, include you, check in on you and make you feel like you belong somewhere. Seeing that in the series made me realise how much I’ve missed it, both when I was younger and now.
It sometimes makes me feel like I’m too old to still build those kinds of friendships, even though I know real life isn’t as perfect as a TV series.
Did anyone else, especially older viewers, feel this way after watching Heartstopper? And did the feeling eventually become easier?
