Is this a confirmed leak?

I know this isn't the gold standard for sensors but consistently beeping on the right corner, no where else when the unit is off even picks it up a little outside of the vents.

No oil residue but definite corrosion on the metal grates and pan.

Daikin VRV less than 8 years old, any idea why it's leaking? Just recharged last month and the system appears to have lost enough refrigerant to no longer cool.

I have another unit downstairs but it's ducted so I can't stick a sensor down there... in most cases are only one of the units affected?

How accurate are sniffers.

Tech used this sniffer and it was beeping off on the bottom corner of air handler. How accurate is this and should I verify with a nitrogren test? System was just recharged last month so so suspecting a fairly large leak.

Daikin VRV possible refrigerant leak or something else?

Daikin VRV IV S-series, 2018 installed with FXDQ24MVJU slim ceiling-concealed ducted, 24k BTU and FXEQ07PVJU cassette.

2022 - Air is not getting cooled and the fans outside don't turn on. PCB replacement, fixed

June 2026 - Same issue. Air is not getting cooled and the fans outside don't turn on. Got the PCB replacement, and fan replacement..... Tech still had issue getting it working and concluded it needed refrigerant so added 6lbs of freeon. Working again.

July 2026 - Same issue. Air not cooling, fan doesn't turn on. He uses the sniffer device
(Elitech HVAC Refrigerant Leak Detector) and it beeps when you hold it to the bottom right of the cassette where the is liquid. Concludes there is a leak and the air handler needs to be replaced.

Got a second opinion which disagreed since the pressure was in range and reprogrammed the PCB... It works kind of for a few days (weak but definitely got cool) but now it's back to not cooling.

Got a third opinion from someone who does not work on VRV systems who thinks it's 90% compressor.

So kind of torn on what to do, is it likely a leak and that the entire 6lbs of freeon leaked in a month from the cassette?

Every option is pretty pricey so I want to make sure it actually gets fixed or follow the right order of operations.
