I am 29 y/o female who has consistently been taking MiraLAX and Florastor before and after treatment and I am 3 days out and still having gnawing pain and bloating at this point I don’t think if it’s true weight gain or not. My doctors don’t seem concerned and mention my stress. CT scan results said moderate stool burden throughout colon but nothing about excess adipose tissue or anything else. No gas. No obstruction. I have constipation and diarhea while taking Senna-S, stool softeners and MiraLAX before, during and after treatment. I mention this and my GI doctors says just keep taking MiraLAX it’s going to be like this for a while.

I am a 29 y/o female who developed bloating, abdominal distention, changes in bowels, and gnawing pain above belly button worse when hungry, and unfortunately weight gain.

I am 2 days post quad therapy treatment with no improvement in symptoms.

I recently got my CT results back stating “moderate stool burden in colon” as well as “benign 1.8cm ovarian cysts rupture in my right ovary” radiology stated in the report this might be contributing to my symptoms but a 3 inch increase in waist size and 7 pound additional weight gain wouldn’t add up.

What were your results? Were they similar?

I’m on day 8 out 14 of quadruple therapy. Bloating and 6 pound weight gain since symptoms started last month and persistent pain above belly button which I feel stretches my stomach out.

Started making smoothies with my apartment’s used ice machine which I later found out had a 3+ years expired water filter on June 3, 2026

UTI antibiotic treatment (antibiotic: Macrobid) x 2 (take 1 capsule twice daily for 5 days)

1st: June 9, 2026-June 13, 2026

Bloating started June 14, 2026

New UTI, 2nd dose: June 18-June 21, 2026

Extreme bloating, constipation and diarrhea and pain above belly button started on June 21, 2026

Gained 6-9 pounds during this month, still didn’t know what was wrong with me.

I also have a history of thyroid cancer and had my entire thyroid removed in March 2026 but my TSH levels are normal.

Went to GI and did a celiac test (negative), fecal calprotectin test (normal) and h. Pylori stool sample (positive), found out by July 30, 2026 and stated quadruple therapy midday July 31, 2026 (first two doses)

H. Pylori medication (14 day treatment)

-Tetracycline 500mg 4 times a day
-Metronidazole (Flagyl) 250mg 4 times a day
-Omeprazole DR 40mg 2 times a day before breakfast and dinner.
-Pepto bismuth chewable tablets 262mg: 2 tablets 4 times a day

Today is day 7 of treatment and while I have not noticed any improvement in symptoms, I notice more pain when I’m hungry and still have 6 pounds of weight on me that I can’t get rid of and I grew an overall 2-4 inches in my waistline due to bloating. Which is very stressful. Walking doesn’t seem to improve symptoms. I grew random white headed pimples on my cheeks and my chest on day 6 of treatment for someone who never gets acne.

I have to wait 4 weeks after h pylori treatment to retest for H. Pylori as well as also to do a breath for SIBO, which I will possibly do after September 11, 2026 if you want to accompany my journey throughout treatment.

I also did my first ever abdominal and pelvic CT scan with contrast yesterday and waiting for results possibly around August 11, 2026.

I didn’t have the typical symptoms of H pylori especially with the weight gain.

I will update with my CT scan results and ongoing treatment.

I was looking to buying labs to narrow down what could possibly be causing my ongoing bloating, above belly button pain, and feeling full soon after eating followed by more bloating and ongoing irregularity with constipation and loose stools (if I take laxatives) quickly followed by constipation. This has been going on for a month which I noticed while taking macrobid but symptoms never stopped.

Has anyone developed persistent bloating and constipation after taking Macrobid?

I took two courses of Macrobid for recurrent UTIs in June (5 days each, about a week apart). Ever since, I’ve had constant bloating and constipation. At its worst, my waist increased by 3.5 inches after eating. After about a month of taking MiraLAX, Metamucil, and Florastor, my waist has only gone down about 1 inch.

The bloating doesn’t improve after bowel movements or passing gas, and IBgard didn’t help. I have a GI appointment in a month, but I’m looking for advice or to hear from anyone who’s experienced something similar after antibiotics.
