It’s been a tough summer for everyone…

I’m not here to make excuses for an airline but I’m here in hopes people get the bigger picture.

It’s been an incredibly difficult summer for airlines. Alberta has seen record rain fall. British Columbia is yet again on fire (this happens every summer….) Manitoba and Ontario have been dealing with this own wild fires. And just to throw some more wood on the fire (literally and figuratively). The Northeast has had a wicked summer with thunderstorms.

Once you throw all of that into one big pile… you then have to operate an airline in the most effective ways possible without getting anyone hurt.

Over the last few weeks, specifically on this sub, people have voiced their concerns and you are rightfully allowed to do so but understanding that every airline doesn’t have 700 airplanes to spare and 2000 extra crew members lying around to operate flights really draws the whole picture.

I want to give credit to Porter specifically on a few topics as it got brushed on the carpet with some negative press and all these natural events.

- Porter added additional flights on routes affected by the WestJet strike
- Porter actively tries to operate a flight before cancelling outright (unlike Air Canada). You might be 8 hours delayed but at least you aren’t stuck…
- Porter continues to push into new markets out of Hamilton / Ottawa / Halifax and (soon to be London?)

Growing pains are a pain… flight cancellations are a pain. But just take a step back for a moment a realize that they aren’t the only ones. They are trying their best with what they got and I truly believe the front line crews are putting their best foot forward to make sure people get home to their families.
