For homeschool parents, how did you prepare your kids for college?

My daughter is thinking about taking BS IT in college, and I’ve been wondering how the transition from homeschooling to college usually goes.

I know college will be pretty different from what she’s used to, especially with the schedule, deadlines, and being around a lot more students. I want to help her prepare, but honestly, I’m not really sure where to start.

For those who homeschooled their kids through high school, how did you prepare them for college? Was there anything you wish you had done differently?

And if you were homeschooled yourself, how was it adjusting to college? I’d love to hear how it went for you.

Trying to minimize cost before starting BSIT. What would you do differently?

My teen is targeting BSIT at WGU and we're trying to be as strategic as possible about it. We're researching Study.com and Sophia as ways to knock out transfer credits before applying but I keep running into conflicting information about what actually maps cleanly to WGU requirements. For anyone who's already been through this, what would you have done differently in the planning phase?

Has your teen ever asked to go back to traditional school? How did you handle it?

We're a few years in and it hasn't come up yet. But I feel like it's only a matter of time.

She has friends in public school and I can tell she notices things. The sports, the social stuff. She seems fine but I honestly don't know what's going on in her head half the time.

Just curious if anyone's been through this. Did it come out of nowhere? How did the conversation go? Did you end up switching or staying the course?

How are you documenting college credit earned during homeschool?

We're in the middle of this right now and honestly finding it more complicated than I expected.

Our high schooler is starting to look at outside coursework and I keep second-guessing whether we're thinking about documentation the right way. Transcripts, course descriptions, credit hours. Every college seems to want something slightly different and the advice online is all over the place.

Curious how other parents are handling this. Are you building your own transcript or going through a third party? How detailed are your course descriptions? And are you checking with target colleges early or waiting until applications are closer?

We're still sorting through it ourselves, just want to hear what others have figured out.
