The Black Avengers by Vargo Statten

How about a few vintage British paperbacks? I’ve got a banker’s box full of these.

Vargo Statten was one of several pseudonyms used by John Russel Fearn. Statten was so popular that Scion named a magazine after him.

You can’t go wrong with cover art by Ron Turner, probably the best of the British sci-fi cover artists.

Murder in Palm Springs

The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival was this weekend. The Damned Don’t Cry (1950) directed by Vincent Sherman and starring Joan Crawford was a standout, featuring lots of great location shots of Palm Springs, including Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms estate as the bad guy’s luxury hangout.
