THE CHERRY PICKERS by J.X. Williams, Sundown Reader 573, 1965, cover artist unidentified

Pretty sure there's a Chinese restaurant near me that has "migrant wantons" on the menu, but maybe that's a typo. And maybe just me but does the guy look like Jethro from The Beverly Hillbillies?

Enjoy!

My Karl Edward Wagner’s Kane collection

All are a bit the worse for wear, reading copies, except for the Coronet editions, which are pretty clean. The Frazetta covers are the coolest, though.

A Thing of the Past by Volsted Gridban

Another pseudonym for the prolific John Russel Fearn. I guess he thought science fiction should be written by people who had sci-fi-sounding names.

The Black Avengers by Vargo Statten

How about a few vintage British paperbacks? I’ve got a banker’s box full of these.

Vargo Statten was one of several pseudonyms used by John Russel Fearn. Statten was so popular that Scion named a magazine after him.

You can’t go wrong with cover art by Ron Turner, probably the best of the British sci-fi cover artists.

“Best of Tough Gangster Authors”

Here’s a quartet of British crime thrillers by Hank Janson (pseudonym of Stephen Frances).

Reginald Heade was the king of “good girl” art. Sister, don’t hate me…

SHARING SHARON by John Dexter (Harry Whittington), Idle Hour 452, 1965, cover artist unidentified

I'll go ahead and assume that this is consensual role playing and that afterwards this lovely couple is going to enjoy that delicious fruit bowl there waiting for them. Otherwise, troubling.

Millie's Daughter. Donald Henderson Clarke. Avon 543. Cover artist uncredited.

Clarke wrote the novel Millie in 1930 so this is the next generation. A movie of Millie was made into 1930 and Millie's Daughter was made into a film in 1947.

ORGY SCOUTS by Dean Hudson, Late-Hour Library 715, 1967, cover art by Tomas Cannizarro

Dude picked his socks to match his humidor (or clock)? Or artist needed to use up the gnarly green paint he had left over?

Enjoy!

The Violent Ones

Ace D-323. A lot of people blame the parents for these JDs, but I say these kids are just bad seeds.
