ANTHONY ADVERSE IN ITALY by Hervey Allen, Dell Mapback 281, 1949, cover painting by Umberto Romano

Not as though I needed another collecting rabbit hole to explore, but went through the stacks today and pulled out this guy, which looks like it might be my gateway drug into the world of Dell Mapbacks. I'm sure I'll be able stop after ai buy the other two in this series 😁

A NEED FOR LOVE by Dallas Mayo (Gilbert Fox), Midwood Books 100, 1961, cover art by Robert Maguire

A little more sophisticated, perhaps, but also boundary-pushing in its day.

LUST MARKET by Don Elliott (Robert Silverberg), Nightstand Books 1625, 1962, cover art by Harold W. McCauley

Finishing up Lust Week with a Silverberg. No fan of the cover art, frankly, but different strokes (no pun intended).

WOMAN BAIT by Paul Garner, Original Club CN-102, no publication date, cover artist unidentified

What I love about this cover art is that in 1960-something, when book was published, it was meant to depict undergarments of some sort, very scandalous. Now that's what the average woman wears to go grocery shopping.

LET'S MAKE MARY by Jack Hanley, MacFadden Books 50-195, 1964, illustrations by Al Kaufman

Looks like I stumbled on something of a classic in the stacks, as this book was originally published in 1937, I believe as a parody of the pick-up artist lifestyle.

Perfect Paperback Solution

Was looking for something to display part of my collection of mass market paperbacks and found these shelves on Amazon. The dimensions were ideal, and they are sold in packs of 3, which was perfect for my space. Installation was straightforward, quality seems good, can definitely recommend them. Will put a link in comments. Happy to answer any questions.

SEX PIT by G.G. Fickling, Softcover Library B824X, 1965, cover artist unidentified

Internet says (and shows) cover was reused from "Love Now, Pay Later" by Elaine Dorian from same publisher. And dialogue blurb on first interior page is hilarious: "... when I ran touchdowns"? Author not a big football fan, apparently.

SCANDAL HIGH by Herbert O. Pruett, Softcover Library S75176, 1969, cover artist unidentified

This edition is actually a reprint, as the first edition was published in 1960. Which is probably why the cover model looks like a Vegas call girl rather than a Midwestern 12th grader. But even though that art is undoubtedly stolen repurposed from somewhere else, its pretty good, IMO.

Enjoy!
