Should I?

I just purchased this book and I was wondering if its I should press and a resubmit? I mean there aren't any spine ticks. Could I get a least a 9.2 or better?

Can I send this slab to CGC as it is?

So If I have a slab like this and want to get it transferred to a CGC slab, do i need to crack it and get it completely regraded raw by CGC, or can i send it in the current slab?

CGC Custom Labels only appear with exact Publisher wording, does anyone have the full list?

I recently realized that CGC's Custom Label options in the submission form are not tied to the actual publisher name so much as one exact string you have to guess. Typing "DC Comics" in the Publisher field brings up no custom labels at all, but typing just "DC" pulls up a full row of them, Wonder Woman, Joker, Supergirl, and more. Marvel works the opposite way. "Marvel" alone shows nothing, while "Marvel Comics" is what unlocks the custom labels.

Right now I am trying to submit a book with the Invincible custom label and cannot get it to show up no matter what I type. I have tried Image, Image Comics, Skybound, and Image/Skybound, and none of them work.

CGC does not seem to publish any list of which exact wording triggers which custom labels for each publisher, so right now it is pure trial and error. Has anyone put together a full list of the exact Publisher field entries needed to unlock custom labels across different publishers? Thanks in advance for any info. It would save a lot of us a lot of guessing. Hey CGC if you see this integrate a dropdown menu for the exact formatting.

Just arrived…

Man, do I love that cover. Have a raw copy, but just had to upgrade. And it’s going to display well alongside another book I just landed, that one from the silver age…💚😁

Finally working through preserving my dad's collection, starting with first issues. They got a lot of attention in person, so figured I'd share.

Just inherited about a hundred comics picked out the few that seem to be more valuable. Does anyone have insight.

Absolute Batman #20 cover A graded 9.8 thoughts?

Curious how some of the other graded 9.8's look. I recently purchased one but it still has a ding on the spine. Was grace given? Did they decide this one was good enough? Etc...

Is PSA going to snuff out CGC through their eBay partnership?

This honestly concerns me a lot.

Lately I feel like I've seen more and more influencers glazing PSA for Comic Books--notably the Amazing Fantasy PSA 7 that was paraded at a party at San Diego Comic Con ahead of its auction.

Let me lay down some background and context as to how massive the PSA/eBay partnership is:

  • PSA slabs command more value (for cards, right now). People say that it's due to decades of reputation, but I think it's much more simpler than that:
    • PSA upcharges you on the value of the card (they call it to cover the "insurance," but you pay that whether you get the collectible graded and handed to you in the same day)
    • It's actually a vehicle to bake in today's price into the cost of ownership of the collectible
    • A collector/seller is less likely to let go of a collectible for less than what they paid to acquire AND grade the collectible unless they're desperate
    • Therefore, with so many collectors holding the line on what they paid, the value doesn't diminish that much
  • The Vault ecosystem allows you to grade your collectible, and:
    • Immediately sell it to PSA
    • Or, have it listed on eBay and shipped directly from PSA Vault
  • When you buy from eBay, you have the option to add-on grading with PSA (and not any other graders)
  • You can avoid sales tax on eBay by having the card go directly to PSA Vault
  • They make it easy to consign and sell through one of the biggest eBay consignment accounts (PSA Vault), granting immediate reputation/trust and high # of views on your collectible
    • eBay is, quite frankly, the largest collectibles marketplace in the world
  • Authenticity Guarantee makes it so that, for now, certain cards that are a minimum value (I think $250), the seller must ship to PSA and PSA will authenticate the card and send it to the buyer
    • As long as you do your job and ship the card to PSA, they will absorb the risk from the card to the buyer
    • They send the card sealed in a nice box with a QR code as a "certificate of authenticity" good for so long as the seal is not broken

Why this sucks for CGC:

  • The moment that PSA opens up PSA Vault to comic books, we might actually start seeing a major shift in grading and selling behaviors
  • CGC has no ecosystem that can compete--to even build the technology and logistics as something like PSA Vault, they are years behind
  • Even if they could accomplish something like PSA Vault, they won't be able to get a partnership with eBay without eBay burning bridges with PSA

Why the partnership is anti-competitive:

  • While long time and reputed graders like CGC qualify for Authenticity Guarantee, what about newcomers like TAG?
  • What does a new up and coming company like TAG have to do to qualify to be part of Authenticity Guarantee? (bet you it's not documented anywhere!)
  • What if eBay were to remove everything but PSA from Authenticity Guarantee? (PSA already bought out BGS and now defunct CBCS--so of the list of companies, feels like it's mostly PSA now)
  • Without Authenticity Guarantee, selling your collectible exposes you to more risk as a seller--and buyers might not consider you, especially if it is a high value collectible

People say that PSA is good for competition--but is it in this case? It feels like a hostile takeover and checkmate for its competitors.

I really hope CGC is thinking about how and what they can do to compete but I fear that it may be bleak.

I was hoping for a 9.0

I've wanted a nice copy of ASM 300 since forever and gambled on this one on eBay, raw.

I felt it was an 8 to a low 9.0. Got it back today and was excited to see I was right about the grade.

Looking for Advice on Selling/Parting With a some of a collection

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice from the comic community. Long time lurker - First time poster. Not sure if this is the best place to do so.

About 20 years ago, I received a large comic collection from a family member. I’ve kept everything bagged, boarded, and stored in a cool, dark place with minimal handling. I recently cataloged the entire collection in the CLZ Comics app (1089 total) and am now considering selling part of it, but I’m new to this and want to avoid mistakes.

Some of the books I’m most curious about include:

Batman: The Killing Joke — 1st print

Wolverine #1

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 — 1st print

Incredible Hulk #120

Transformers #1

Rocket Raccoon #1

Longshot #1

Magik #1

Kitty Pryde & Wolverine #1

Hawkeye #1

Black Panther #1

Batman: The Cult #1

Crisis on Infinite Earths #1–12

Spider-Man #1 Black and gold

Uncanny Xmen #162-200

I’m not planning to sell everything—some I want to keep for sentimental reasons. Thanks for any kind advice!

Edit: Ive added my CLZ Comics link if yall want to see what im working with! https://cloud.clz.com/diamondviper/comics

Has There Been Any Talk of a Redesign of the CGC Flip?

I was just wondering if there has been any talk about CGC redesigning their flip? I started picking up 9.8s of my old comics and think their flip just comes off as super cheap. I believe they have already made their holders heavier compared to PSAs, but still think they lack quite a bit in the flip department.

I specifically use CGC for cards and would like to extend that to comics as I detest PSA, but currently not able to get 100% behind CGCs design.
