Pulled a couple of old keys in iffy condition from my collection - going to get them cgc’d. Not expecting much for most of them - maybe a 3.5/4.0 for #129 but have some hope for 8.5 or higher for SW#8, NM #98 and MTU #14. Wish me luck!
Ended up with a last minute pass to Fanatics Fest this weekend and saw there was a cgc booth. I didn’t have a chance to go to storage to pull a bunch of books that actually could benefit from grading but I did manage to pull together 15 I had at home. Some like Red Sonja and the JSC I maybe wouldn’t have paid to ship both ways but dropping off cuts the price considerably. Plus seeing how they come back will guide me in the future.
So now I guess I just wait what, 3 months?
I collected comics from around 1985 to 2017ish before going pretty much fully digital. Hung in for Spidey for a while but gave him up soon after. Now almost 10 years later I feel like I’m ready to shift the collection - slightly awkward as its around 25k books splits between the UK and here in the US.
However I have been leaning toward getting some cgc copies of key books and good covers on my way out. I always liked J Scott Campbell covers and wanted the 3 MJ/Cat/Spidey covers - but it wasn’t till last week I realized they weren’t variants so I probably had them. Sure enough one trip to storage later I had them - and not terrible condition either for being in storage around 20 years; 601 has some spine roll and minor marks but considering sending them all in for pressing and grading.
I need to see if there’s any more things I haven’t thought of in the collection….
What’s the general opinion of the John Tyler Christopher negative space variants? I know theyre not particularly limited and some of the underlying books are questionable (hello, Strikeforce #1) - but as pieces of art design I really like the covers. The majority seem to be barely registering on the market though, with some 9.8s available cheap. I’m just curious if I’m alone in liking them?
