Iranian Silver Eggs on Legs Salt & Pepper Shakers Mark?

Hello friends! Looking for assistance identifying the assay mark(s) on the bottom of these cute salt & pepper shakers. Pretty sure the AF is Persian for 84 marking these as silver but not sure what the squiggly mark is. I posted on r/Antiques (https://www.reddit.com/r/Antiques/comments/1vrwiyh/iranian\_silver\_salt\_pepper\_shakers\_united\_states/) and someone suggested checking here. It was mentioned potential armored lion, but when I zoom in it really doesn't look like that to me. Any assistance and/or information is appreciated!

Iranian Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers? United States

Was out hitting some garage sales this weekend and stumbled upon this cool pair of salt & pepper shakers. The owner said they were silver-plated and was only asking $2, so I didn't think much of it and happily took them home.

After getting home and looking a little closer, though, I'm starting to suspect they might actually be solid silver. From what I could gather with my Google-Fu, I think one of the markings may be ۸۴ (84 in Persian numerals), which would indicate 875/1000 silver (.875). I've also seen some pretty wide date ranges for these types of pieces, roughly 1920–1940, so I apologize if these don't quite make the 100+ year-old cutoff.

I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out:

  • Whether these are actually solid silver or silver-plated
  • What the markings mean
  • If possible, who the maker might be
  • Approximate age
  • Potential resale/collector value
  • And any other interesting information about them

I did perform the strong rare-earth/neodymium magnet test, and the magnet didn't stick to any part of either shaker. I also checked some of the worn areas, particularly where the tops and bottoms meet, and I don't see another metal color showing through—just silver.

Originally, I was just going to put liners in them and use them at my cabin, so if they're just silver-plated nothing-burgers, my feelings won't be hurt! 😄
