Looking for Housing + Car Advice on Oahu

Hey everyone! My girlfriend and I will be visiting Oahu from September 21 through December 27, and we’re really excited to make Hawaii our next adventure!

This trip is especially meaningful for me because Hawaii will be my 50th and final state, after visiting every other state across several trips. We’ve also been lucky enough to travel to 25+ countries together and really love exploring new places and meeting new people.

We’re currently looking for a place to stay with double occupancy for under $1,200/month, with roommates of course. We’re really not picky about where we stay as long as we’re within about 30 minutes of Waikiki. We saw Kailua as an option, but we’re open to pretty much anything!

We’re also trying to figure out a car. We’d be open to renting from someone, a friend/friend-of-a-friend, or even buying a cheap car and selling it before we leave.

We’re really just here to ask for any help, advice, recommendations, or leads anyone might have. We’d really appreciate it and can’t wait to meet some of you and start this adventure! 🤙

Mountain Hardwear Lamina Eco AF 30°F — worth it for $103?

I found the Lamina Eco AF 30°F synthetic sleeping bag brand new for $103. It’s around 2 lb 1 oz, which seems like a great weight for a synthetic bag.

I’ve seen some people say the 30°F rating is optimistic and that it’s more realistically a 35–40°F bag, while others seem to love it.

For anyone who owns the exact 30°F version:

  • How warm is it actually?
  • How’s the fit/comfort?
  • Is $103 a steal? I know it's an older bag.

Trying to decide between this and spending more on something like a Kelty Cosmic 20.

Help me choose a lightweight, affordable tent for a Big Agnes Divide Double

I’m looking for a 2P or 3P tent under 5 lbs and under $200 that will fit my Big Agnes Divide Double (50” × 78”). Since the Divide is rectangular, I need a non-tapered/rectangular floor.
I found an ALPS Helix 2 for $200 (about 4 lb 2 oz). I’ve also found cheaper options around $100–150 that are a little heavier.
Should I sacrifice some weight to save money, or is the Helix worth spending $200 on? What would you guys buy? Please help me, I’ve been driving myself nuts.

Open Container TAB Fine

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some reassurance. About 2.5 weeks ago I got a yellow TAB ticket for an open container violation in NYC. A police officer issued it to me on the subway platform. I already paid it, but I’m worried about whether this will show up on future employment background checks.
When I called TAB to pay, they asked if I was employed, then asked for my employer’s phone number and my Social Security number. I only said that I was employed and did not provide the employer number or my SSN, and they still processed everything. I’ve heard these are treated more like a parking ticket/quality-of-life violation and not a criminal offense. Can anyone confirm if I should be worried about this affecting future jobs? Thanks!
