Normal?

Added Norroa a few hours ago and came out to this. Only one of two hives is like this. I opened the entrance and made sure the packet wasn't blocking.

I'm in Texas and it is in the 90s but have never seen this many out

UPDATE: Added another deep and removed entrance reducer.

Shunned Poults

I have noticed something the last few years and was wondering if this happens to anybody else.

I have a primarily bourbon red flock with a few bbb and blue slate. After the poults are 3 months old and have been in the yard with the adults, I combine them in a big coop with plenty of space.

Every time, there is a single poult (usually a mix) either the hens or Tom does not like. Instead of falling into the pecking order, the poult becomes despondent, eats and drinks little and eventually dies. It stops socializing even with its siblings. Meanwhile, the flock accept other mixes with no problem.

Anybody have this happen or can shed some light? I noticed it happening today so am separating the young again to try to stop it.

Hey all!

I did my first inspection after installing the nucs last week and had a few questions:

  1. Is it normal to have outlying frames full of honey? It looks like the empty frames I left in had no brood and were all dedicated to honey.

  2. I started with 7 frames, as 3 were taken up by internal feeders, leaving only 2 empty frames when installed. One was built out and there was a lot of burr comb on the inner lid so I added a 2nd deep box. Was this too soon? The population seemed high in this particular hive vs. the other as the nuc was packed when I got it.

I appreciate any feedback! (East Texas and as novice as they come)

Hey everyone!

I'm very new and this is going to be my first solo batch.

I wanted to use an apple wine base with notes of cinnamon and honey. I was wondering at what point, you would add each.

I was thinking cinnamon sticks in the fermentation bucket and backsweeten with a honey simple syrup but wanted to seek guidance from those who would know better than I would. Not sure if it makes more sense to just add it all initially.

Thanks!
