Tiny protest at Ella and TC Jester

I was driving by The Long Weekend to see if it was open/busy today (its usually packed with a line out the door). At the intersection of Ella and TC Jester, there were 6 or 8 people, all older white folks, waving signs. The light was green so I couldn't stop and yell out a question to them. The signs were generic anti violence pro peace signs. Not sure what their political alignment was. Are there protests in general going on in Houston today? Any idea what these folks were protesting, more specific than being anti-violence?

The shop I used to rely on, the Kar Hospital, has made it clear that they don't want to work on my 96 Impala anymore. I'm looking for a new shop that isn't scared to handle the (admittedly curiously engineered) LT1 engine technology in this car. Anyone know of a place that does good work on classic cars? Money is no object - results and quality of work are.

As late as the 80's, listening on shortwave, I'd run across automated CW transmissions that endlessly sent the stations call, maybe a little nonsence text, and nothing else, looping forever. People back then told me that they were commercial communications companies "reserving" the frequency. That explanation didn't really seem to make sense, since I never heard them being used for anything else. It wasn't VOR ID's - I know what they are like. This was being sent at medium to high speed and outside of the aviation bands. Anyone recall hearing these? and anyone know what they were about?
