update on the diptyque dicontinuation rumour (good news)

After my visit to Liberty last week, where the SA said Chene, Coriandre, and Mousses were on the chopping block, I popped into the Covent Garden boutique and chatted to a manager. He said that they were wrong - because Coriandre is a refill, Chene has just been reformulated and that they had heard nothing about Mousses, in short, not to worry x

Wonderful pasta candle (take note DS&Durga!)

Earl of East have nailed pasta at all points in its journey from the field to the plate! The delicate scent of uncooked durum wheat, the salty starch of the foam that collects on top of the water as it boils and finally the finished noodle, still al dente and finished with butter and basil. This is not a dirge of discarded pasta water in any way, so if you were intrigued by the concept of DSD's pasta water and disappointed, I think you'll love this candle. The throw is nuclear too!

Other Earl of East favourites for me are Milk Buns (extreme lactonic comfort - milk, baked yeasted dough, vanilla, while not that sweet) and Greenhouse - green but not extreme). Artichoke, also from their Primavera range was also interesting, but the throw was low. It paired nicely with pasta though.

More Diptyque candles to be discontinued?

I was in Liberty, London today, talking to a sales assistant who said that she'd been told that Chene, Mousses and one other (she's not sure which) are going to be discontinued. I'm simply reporting what she said, but I'm surprised no one else has heard or reported this, given that many have good relationships with SAs in boutiques. So I'm just passing this on in case anyone else wants to ask about this rumour in other locations.

Non-burny, not bitter intense green candles?

I love intensely green, tomato, greenhousey (and fig) candles, but I often have two problems with them. Either they don't have enough base to anchor their throw, or after a few burns, they smell bitter and burnt to my nose. A good example of this is FE's Heirloom Tomato - great throw, smelled wonderful at first, but by halfway down the jar, my nose registers a burned-rubber smell to the point I dread lighting it. I got this from True Grace Fig and a few other candles. I'm thinking this could be due to how my brain registers galbanum.

So I'm looking for recommendations for strong-throwing, very green/tomato candles that don't take on a burnt quality over time. Thanks!

Bois Cire, Opera (ADV) and Solis Rex

Calling all polished wood enthusiasts! For anyone who has burned all three, how do they compare? I've only cold sniffed the Diptyque and Trudon. The cold throw on both was sweeter than I would have liked. I'm curious to know what happens to them when lit and how does Opera fit into the waxed wood equation?

ADHD busting burn schedule

I've been struggling with work... initiation struggles, maintaining focus, perfection paralysis... so trying a burn roadmap for the day. Sichuan Pepper, Abd el Kader, Geranium, Tartufo Bianco, Benzoin & Cacao. Wish me luck!

If you burn while working, which candles help you focus and lock in?

DEEP discounts on Carriere Freres and Trudon alabasters (EU site)

Villa Kontor (Germany) has a selection of CF candles for only 20 euros, including discontinued Sichuan pepper and ebony, as well as a few favourites like tomato, cedar, lemon, etc. Discontinued Hemera and Vesta alabasters are 109 euros, but other Trudons are also discounted. If you sign up for the newsletter, you get an additional 10% off. I did have to pay 29 euros to ship to the UK and be mindful of the customs cut-off (£135 for the UK), but it's still incredible value.

Diptyque - new vessel fails...

Noisetier and Cafe (burning). Appalling wet spots/pulling away from the vessels. These are the only two new vessels I have and they both look amateur. It's so unacceptable for the price. I am stuck with having to buy from them due to Noisetier addition, but aside from that, no more, never again.

Do you think I should take them into a store to point out the issues? Has anyone else had the same problem?

If you could only burn from one house...

One candle house for the rest of your life... who would it be? Let's be generous and say you can have the current and back catalogue!

I think I would go with Carriere Freres.

All those beautifully composed botanicals and food-adjacent scents are my jam. They've been going quite a while, so I think a back catalogue of botanicals would keep me very happy. Everything I've ever gotten from them is a hit. Benzoin and Cacao might have to work hard to hit the savoury gourmand comfort hit I crave, but I don't think I would mind!

How about you?
