HEC-RAS question about core allocation in large 2D models.

I’m currently working on some very large models built by another company that the county will be using as a baseline going forward. One of these models has a 2D meshes with over 730,000 cells. I’ve been trying to get it running in version 7.0.1 (built in version 5.0.7) I’ve fixed the various issues but the model kept crashing and giving exit code 157 about 4 to 9 hours into the simulation. My theory was that the problem was a hardware limitation on the RAM. Still, I’ve been making little changes here and there but not seeing much impact until this morning. I needed to check another model and went ahead with another attempt to run the problem model just to see if it did any better. I ran them at the same time on the same computer. Now the problem model has made it over the 24 hour mark and is still going. I’ve googled this and see that the second model may be adjusting the core allocation, priorities, etc.

My question is if anyone knows if it is possible to make this happen without running the second model in parallel with the first. Can I just limit the 2D meshes calculations to 4 cores and get it working?

I was happy the ducks got out of our yard but now they are back.

So I checked this morning and was happy to see that the adult ducks had made it over the chain link fence and reached our neighbors yard (still has some deep puddles from rains over the weekend and earlier). I thought it was problem solved until my wife found the family occupying our back patio. The dog is not amused. The cat (indoor cat so he won’t get into trouble) also finds the ducklings fascinating.

I’ve got a couple of wild ducks and ducklings stuck in my yard

So yeah. Pair of adult black bellied whistling ducks and a whole mess of ducklings seem to be stuck in my backyard. They are super cute and I like seeing ducks in our neighborhood. That said, I assume they are trying to get to a nest or maybe our neighbor’s pool? The metal fence seems to be giving them a lot of trouble. I’m torn between wanting to help and knowing better than to approach a wild animal. We can’t let our dog out till they leave.

Finally managed a gumbo that does not spike my glucose from the roux. Super pleased with how it turned out. Thought I’d share here and if others are interested I can share more details on recipe.

Made a chicken and sausage gumbo based mostly on Paul Prudhomme’s recipe (I baked chicken thighs instead of frying them and I used a nice Keto flour that worked very well in the roux). This is the pic I took while packing up leftovers. They won’t last long.
