Going from Kindle Paper White to Kobo Libra Color? Is $200CAD good?

I’ve had a Kindle Paperwhite for a few years, I like it! I’m just getting into using Libby, and in Canada you can’t use Libby on kindle, only Kobo. I saw someone review a Kobo Libra Color a while ago and it piqued my interest!

Someone local to me is selling one out of box, but unused with the pen and charger for $200CAD (which is about $140USD, for reference.)

Is this a good deal? Would it be super difficult to go from Kindle to Kobo? Worth it?

4 week olds - what’s the protocol when it’s raining?

This is obviously a temporary solution! We will have a large run and fenced in area for them soon! But for now, these guys are outside in their coop my partner built. During the day, we’ve been putting them in a dog crate outside! Then we let them free range a bit while we’re outside with them.

Today, it’s raining pretty hard, what do I do with them? Put them in the crate?? Or leave them in their coop? Help me out!

Sexing Brahmas?

Put numbers over them as two of them look super similar. The rest of my chicks have very different combs, they’re easier to tell. I’m having a hard time with these guys! They’re 5.5 weeks old.

Help wanted on our coop!

Current progress on duck house! (COOP? Home? Idk what to call it lol)

Wondering about ventilation! How much ventilation should we leave at the top, just below the roof? Leave the whole top part and just do hardware cloth? Block part off? Put ventilation elsewhere?

Open to any and all suggestions on what we should do from here!

Indian runner I suspect is a mix of Pekin/Runner?

We have 9 Indian runners, from two different breeders. 3 from one breeder that also had some Pekin ducks, and 6 from a breeder that only had runners. 8/9 of them are what I would expect Indian Runners to look like. We have one that is significantly larger than the rest, and is kinda built different LOL. She(hopefully she, anyway!) is also our nicest duck, and she comes from the breeder that had Pekins as well.

I’m starting to think maybe she is a mix? Which I don’t mind, but I’m just wondering if that’s even possible? What other reason would there be for her to be so significantly different to the rest? I’ve added pictures of most of our ducks, they’re about 3 weeks old. They’re all hatched within 2 days of each other. The one in question, which we’ve named Yellow, is the first one.

She’s huge! Anyone have experience with a Runner/Pekin cross? Why else would she be so large??

One of my runner ducklings acting different than the others:(

I just picked up three runner ducklings today, our first ducklings! They’re so cute and sweet so far, but we’ve noticed one of them is acting super lethargic while the other two run around. She’s not interested in food, she’ll drink a bit but that’s it. Idk if this is normal behaviour or not!

She also seems to be having a hard time keeping her eyes open. She just kinda flops down, while the other two play in the water.

Wondering if there’s anything we should be doing to help her out? Worried about her:(

‼️24 HOUR UPDATE: she is doing better! We hand fed her and made her drink some water, then gave her some good warm snuggles on the couch (which she seems to love) for a while before bed last night. Her head is a little bit misshapen, I’m honestly wondering if she’s just a special gal? I’ve never dealt with this before so I’m really not sure 😅

Tell me about your Black Copper Marans!

Picked up these (hopefully) girls impulsively yesterday! We have Olive Eggers, Azures, Barred Rocks and Brahmas already. I’ve done a ton of research on the breeds we already have, looking for experiences with the BCMs 🫶🏻

We’re also getting some Orpingtons today! Hoping to have a colourful egg basket and friendly girls!

Breed differences in chicks!

Day 4 of keeping these guys alive! 🐣

A few observations/questions for some experienced owners-

-The personalities of these guys is crazy already! They’re all so different!

-Are Barred Rocks crazy??? Or did we just get a crazy pair? Or did we end up with roosters? They’re sexed from the hatchery, but ours act completely different than the rest of our chicks. Way more confident, active, dominant!

-Our Brahmas are sooo much more chill than the rest of the chicks. They’re pretty docile, one especially so. Is that normal? Or do I have to worry about them?

-Our Azures are very flighty. Normal? Or do they hate me? lol

-The Olive Eggers are more so what I ‘expected’ chicks to act like

-we plan to introduce 5 more chicks in a week, so these chicks will be just a little over a week old, are they okay to just add them straight in? Or do we need to do something special to introduce them?

Pics so this post doesn’t get lost! Loving chicken motherhood so far:’)

Brooder plate height for day olds?

We have 9 day old chicks, idk what to do about the brooder plate height 🤪 sos, I see so many conflicting things. (ignore the time on the baby monitor, it’s not right.)

To opportunity to get a batch of Indian Runner Ducklings within a week of getting our first batch of chicks just fell into our lap.

Good idea? Bad idea?

Anyone have experience mixing ducks and chickens? Runner ducks, in particular? We’re converting our 9x9 shed into a coop, so there would definitely be enough room for both.

We’d like a rooster, but it’s sounding like we should try to avoid having a drake!

Any and all advice appreciated!

We want a mixed flock, with all the fun coloured eggs! We’re currently getting :

2 barred rocks

2 Olive Eggers

2 Orpingtons

2 Azure

3 Brahma

((BRs, OEs and Azures are coming as 1 day old sexed chicks from a hatchery, someone local to me has eggs in the incubator of the Brahams set to hatch the same time we’re getting the chicks from the hatchery, Orpingtons we’re getting as pullets, hatched at the same time as our ones from the hatchery so they’ll be the same age, at the same time we’ll be putting the chicks outside.))

Does anyone have a similar flock? Tell me all about them!

What are some things we should know about having a mixed flock? We’re hoping for one of the Brahmas to be a rooster, and if they’re all hens we’ll also be picking up an Orpington cockerel when we get the pullets!

Tell me what you would choose between a Brahma rooster or an Orpington rooster! We plan to free range, so we’re hoping the rooster will help protect the flock a bit! We also have a small child, so we want friendly chickens!
