Is uw credit union worth it?

I already bank with community first, and I'm trying to be more financially literate/figure out what benefits some places offer, but don't have a credit card yet as I just turned 18 a couple weeks ago.

I hopeee I can get in to start one with CF this weekend, but I'm just wondering if the uw CU is worth opening one too? They have the $50 opening bonus and I would be open to starting one for my work study job to have a direct deposit there instead of my other account.

Is it worth it? Are they easy to work with? Is it okay to have even though I won't be in madison over winter and probably next summer?

how do you guys have normal lives

okay yes this sounds ridiculous but I'm actually curious. I'm going pre med for my psych bachelor's and hope to get into psychiatry. But like seeing the normal things other people do in their 20s makes me question it, cause I wouldn't finish school until 25 or older. Meanwhile I'm watching people have their own apartments, dogs, investments, and careers at like 21-23.

I'm well aware that it's a long road and there's sacrifices- but is med school your entire life? I'm afraid by the time I get there I won't be able to even afford to live alone (without roomates) until like 30.

I also have backup options if I get the opportunity, like therapy or other clinical psych jobs, but I really do think I'll love the medical field and getting to help people as much as I ADORE psychology. And I have no problem with dedication and long hours, but I don't want to look back and wonder if I should've lived my life with less of a deadset path and school/money restrictions. I just want to experience everything.

how the hell do I know what I owe the school 😭

please don't be mean cause guys I am so so lost right now. i really want to enjoy college but like I don't understand how to get into the payment process where it's simple-r and understandable to know if you are good/behind, and how to understand my actual costs.

Under 'college financing plan' in student center financial aid, it says my yearly is 33,060 to attend, and 17,714 net price. But my current e bills just released for fall and are only 3000 something?? After the estimated aid or whatever they subtract (~5k).

Is this including housing? Is this including the two private scholarships already sent over (that show in my history)? Is that (the 5k) the school scholarships/aid/federal aid/pell grant I have? If my actual bill (the ~3k due sept. 11) really is all I need to pay for the fall, am I still able to accept the federal loans later for the spring if needed (if I don't now)?

Again, I'm new to adulting so please have some grace if any of this is a dumb question, I'm just genuinely trying to get the hang of things!! I could also just be overcomplicating it since I tend to feel constantly behind everyone else/misunderstanding things from my ocd.

food & housing

hey, incoming freshman

So housing. Does anyone usually do the dorms their sophomore year? Everyone is talking about leasing with people by sept/oct but arent the dorms sorta better? Housing is in your bill so paying rent isn't a monthly fear, you can get food covered, you don't have a private bathroom to clean, and you aren't sharing a house further from campus with like 5 roomates. I just don't know why I haven't heard that more commonly and want another perspective/to know if my dumbass is missing something.

Also I'm a tracker type & just curious if the go14 is worth it? Do they have enough decently healthy options? Lowk I like cooking & love healthier foods just naturally for my pallet but can't really chef it up in a dorm so idk. I like the dining dollars/guest meals/more meal exchanges but I don't want to waste money either if the dining hall food sucks. I'm also pretty used to snacking & my only regular meal being dinner and possibly breakfast. obviously this isn't some philosopher shit but thought I'd throw it in since I haven't seen much abt meals health wise over taste wise
