My 6 yo dachshund seems to be healing slowly
My 6yo dachshund, Percy was diagnosed with stage 3 IVDD last year. He had a flare up last week. Noticed sensitivity and stiffness but still getting around ok. We just moved, so didn’t have a vet in the area and took him to an emergency vet that prescribed him prednisone, methocarbamol, and gabapentin. This isn’t our first rodeo so knew what to do. Things seemed to be getting better, then he started to get worse again.
About 4 days into treatment (meds and crate rest) we noticed a little more sensitivity in his back and not wanting to get up to go out. He was walking fine a the day before. Today was day 7 and I took him to a primary care vet clinic. They said it’s not always linear and he seems to be doing ok. Essentially said to keep on the same plan but extended some meds.
Tonight he is getting around worse. I don’t want him walking obviously but it was encouraging to see him trying to get around. Now he’s not even putting in the effort. Trying to stay positive, and not overreact. I know it can be a slow healing process. I just was hoping to see consistent progression, not regression. Any thoughts?
