Army recruiter told me that DLI is backed up for the next 2 years! And that all new soldiers that are heading there now and the last few months will not be taking classes ANYTIME SOON.
he then told me I should do 18x Special ops… I have a feeling he just doesn’t want me to enlist 35w MOS.
Can any new DLI students confirm classes are proceeding for new sailors, soldiers and airmen?
What do you think is his political leanings?
So I had a 4 year enlisted contract to be an airborne Cryptologic analyst, I was supposed to leave September 15th…. I was DQ’d for 12 months for runners knee believe it or not, waiver was not afford to me. I don’t want to wait that long. So I’m thinking about the linguist equivalent for army 35p, 35w and the navy CTI.
I know a gentlemen who works at my local MEPS he had advised me that the army does 4 year contacts and the navy does 5 year obligations.
When I went to the navy and the army recruiter they had both told me they only do 6 year contracts for linguistic jobs? I called the recruiter out on this, and he said he’s gonna have to call MEPS to find out what the contract length is because he is unsure…… And all of a sudden he lost all confidence and appealed to authority…. Like wdym, you don’t know brother? You don’t have a handbook infront of you or some?
Who is lying to me? Do any of the branches other, other than Air Force, offer 4 year contracts for linguists?
There is a lot of good info on soldiers experience post graduation of DLI in this subreddit. Most of it is a few years old. On this topic there is a shit ton of complaining and regret.
I’m waiting for a medical waiver from the AF to get linguist job, if it is denied I think I’m gonna go for army cause I heard they are more lenient.
Dear recent army DLI grads:
Do you use your language day to day on job?
Do I get to choose 35m or 35p? Or is it earned? Which one do I want if I want to use my language day to day.
To get assignments that use Language more often, I’ve heard PT scores are really important, is that still true?
I believe the Army has recently made it a point to properly use linguists and their skills… is that true, and do you feel that in your day to day?
For PT at DLI, Do I get a choice of either early morning or afternoon?
I plan on bringing my bible and a short read by John Steinbeck.
Is there any chance I will have the time to myself and read for say 30 minutes before bed?
Or in the afternoon or early morning?
Will I have any down time at BMT?
