Max PF Tool for Fantasy Basketball

Hey Everyone!

I have built a MaxPF calculator tool for python. Here’s the github repo if you want to take a look. (link).

For those who don’t know, MaxPF is a metric used in Dynasty formats, especially in points based leagues. It ranks teams by the best possible lineups they could have set so it helps to manage tanking by removing the advantage of purposely losing games. It’s great for fantasy football, and I wanted to make it available in a categories format.

I tried to make it as easy as possible to use. All you have to do is install it in your python environment and then run the script with your fantrax league ID. Since the ID is tied to an individual season, that’s all the information it needs.

I know there’s plenty of criticism of projects built by LLMs, so I included the entire prompt log for scrutiny. I’d love to chat about the process.

I’m all here for feature requests. I haven’t implemented the cookie login method necessary for private leagues, but if there’s demand it will be a simple add. If people have fantrax points leagues they want to use this for, I don’t yet know how well it will work so that’s an experiment worth trying. If people want me to try and add other sports or fantasy platforms, those are both clear next steps. If you have any suggestions on other things that could be added, I’m all ears. I spend a lot of my free time building fantasy sports tools.

It’s in the PyPI archive, so you can install the package by running pip install max-pf. Then just run this script (with my league as an example)

import max_pf

rows = max_pf.run({"platform": "fantrax", "league_id": "wserh14rmbbpqtcg"})
print(max_pf.render_table(rows))

There’s plenty more to it, but that’s the basics. I like using the M1 metric for simplicity, but each metric has its own usefulness. There’s a little explainer doc in the repo with what each metric means.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any comments!
