[DISCUSSION] New Equipment provides a lot of Strategic Diversity
Hello Merge Community! I am a casual player and joined in Season 9 and I must say, the game has drastically improved since Season 9. I used to see Monk 4 star every other game and Nobles spammed as the best comp and now there is more comp diversity with Forest and Undead which I have been enjoying this season.
I wanted to propose a concept regarding the new recent equipment: passive equipment buffs! Playing modifiers like Orb Galore and Goblins Treasure, I have been really enjoying the new equipment and how much it shakes up certain matchups. What if, call me crazy, we gave certain troops passive equipment buffs?
For example: Baby Dragon and Skeleton Dragon are both dragons, they should be able to have the "Dragon Scale" passive buff. Same for something like the Thrower Telescope, we could have designated long range troops like Spear Goblin and Executioner receive a passive "Thrower" buff because they are currently underwhelming in the Late Game rounds like round 8+.
This seems like it would be broken on the surface so I proposed a balancing idea: you must have at least 2 troops of the same "passive buff" in order to unlock the buff (ex. you must have both Baby Dragon and Skeleton Dragon to unlock the Dragon scale equipment passive buff or Executioner and Spear Goblin to unlock the Thrower telescope equipment passive buff). This is almost like a 2nd trait and it allows these units to have a place in the meta while also shaking up the meta with more strategic diversity, just like the new equipment has demonstrated so far.
I know this seems like a wild idea, but in concept it could add so much to the game that it currently does not have in troop balancing and making every troop viable.
Again, it would almost function as a "2nd trait" which is might be a stretch to how far Merge Tactics is willing to go but I hope a dev sees this post and considers this idea.
Thank you guys :D

Liebestraum no. 3- my first week back is this piece too hard for me to tackle?
I can get the timings right it's just my 3rd day learning it and I'm a little rusty. Is learning the rest of the piece realistic? (save for the cadenzas... maybe I'll attempt that after I finish the other parts)

Ewiz and Egiant(??) vs Post Nerf Skelly Drag
Worst part is the Devs thought they cooked with this update
Hey it's TheBuilderMain and I wanted to drop a discussion post because I'm still addicted to this game. We need to talk about how the devs genuinely believed they cooked with this update before its release and how they decided not to handle the worst parts after...
- This season is the culmination of all the previous seasons. From as recent as Star Shield and Duchess season's equipment to S0 Ranger, Juggernaut (back as equipment). Removing the hated Assassins and Superstars from last season and turning it into equipment (in theory more skilled and dynamic use). Nearly EVERY TROOP SINCE RELEASE IN THE GAME (except electric rip ewiz and egiant).
The devs genuinely took player feedback and reflected on how they could improve it rather than completely removing it. I even saw the vision with One Trait per troop but they botched it so hard for reasons I'll discuss next.
THIS was the big release to boost the game. They very intentionally dropped Tomb Queen at the same time in both games to boost Merge and even made an official youtube short on Merge Tactics, something they hadn't done since early seasons. The devs got in a room and cooked their version of Avengers: Infinity War. The only issue from Infinity War is that-
2. Thanos won. (4 star monk)
For an update as huge as this and game-changing for merge tactics as it is, the team did a shit job at the MOST IMPORTANT PART: Balancing. Thanos won, he collected all 6 infinity stones: Skelly Drag, 4 star monk, GK with Dagger, 6/6 Undead, Mini Pekka with Dagger, and of course the Goblin Lute. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
ALL THEY HAD TO DO WITH THE LAST BALANCE CHANGE WAS NERF THE BROKEN SHIT (and buff forest hp scaling). Supercell is known to be stingy with it's decisions, they let things play out for the whole season unless it's a gamebreaking bug in which case they solve it after 4 weeks of the known bug existing. This season could have really been incredible if they balanced the Orbs RNG factor and nerfed the broken units but they've made it clear that "suggestions will be taken into consideration for next season."
- One Trait is not that bad... if implemented correctly
One Trait per troop is incredibly controversial, but it's the foundation for something great. Although I will dearly miss my 6-trait comps, it did admittedly lock the meta into a handful of usable comps that players memorized. The devs idea was: the RAW STRENGTH of troops coupled with THE SYNERGY OF FRONTLINE/BACKLINE or TROOP ABILITIES WORKING IN TANDEM would introduce a ton of interesting comps and not lock into a certain "meta." Equipment and modifiers would genuinely shake up what would be good in the meta if all troops were viable in some way (in my previous post I mentioned how there's 16/34 viable troops shared amongst 4 players). This could've almost been the greatest update Merge has seen but they missed 3 GLARING POINTS OF CONTENTION.
3a. The 6/6 Buff being OP completely contradicts this idea. Comps are no longer unique because you're getting 6 troops of the same trait AND the buff at 6/6 being good disincentivizes strategic play
3b. Bosses and exclusive units completely defeat the purpose of this new system. Especially because Bosses are exclusive to your own pool, not to mention the boss trait makes bosses even stronger?? who made that call
3c. Half the troops suck! Half the card pool HAVE NO USE CASE EVER. Not early game, not end game. Useless troops available for empress to guarantee cycle. If they had buffed forest to not have hp scaling worse than goblins and have more troops be tanky enough to withstand 2 GK hits then MAYBE we'd have a more coherent meta. But the dev team very intentionally want to hold their pride up and let this season run because I guess "the numbers don't lie" as this season is probably attracting more users and more retention.
This season is obviously catered to casuals with not a second thought for the competitive playerbase so we're right for feeling like this update is a huge middle finger to top players (and even semi competitive midladder players). But there was an idea. A big, beautiful, impossible idea that they had neither the competitive knowledge nor intention to execute properly.
The hope I had for Merge died with how this update was handled. Good luck to all.

Hey I'm TheBuilderMain and I'm back with another insane project: Jeopardy but with Merge Tactics! We need surveyers to answer this poll, creative responses may make the cut into the video.
Everything is wrong about this season (DISCUSSION)
Hit #1 for 4 days and am now quitting
Hey guys it's TheBuilderMain back for my last discussion post this season (check my profile for the last few they were pretty informative). I hit #1 for the past 4 days and I've come to realize a few things:
- Yes, it is still an empress meta at top ladder (with Duchess undeniably in close second)
- TROOP POOL. This season is inherently worse than last season, bosses aside and single trait aside. Out of the 34 troop pool, 9 troops are "exclusive" which are mostly unattainable and 11 are useless. This leaves Clan troops and Noble troops and the remaining Giant Skeleton, Witch, Goblin Machine, and Skeleton King (16 "usable" troops). Compare that to last season where 22/26 troops had a place in the meta (remaining were Stab Goblin, Ghost, Dart, and Demolisher and even those troops had a functional purpose: assassins, marksmen, and the niche Demolisher 4 star). There were 6 or 7 good comps and way more niche comps last season and now there's 2 comps.
Usable troops from 22/26 to 16/25 is not a good look.
2b.๐ฒ FOREST IS AWFUL. Boss bandit 3 star (1911 hp) functionally has less hp as a 1 star monk (1625 hp x 25% from boss trait=2031 hp). The hp scaling on forest units is way less than other traits, even goblins have better hp scaling than forest. They all just get one tapped by a GK.
2c. COMPS. Take a look at slide 5 and tell me what coolboy could have "pivoted" to or what other troops were available. Nothing. There's no options. Xqc said it best "There's nothing to do late game" (ifykyk). The only usable comps consist of Noble and Clan, GK's counters were all removed or locked behind "exclusive", and one boss unit will turn your sorry playstyle to a 1st in the lobby. - ONE TRAIT PER TROOP. Supercell. We've lost the plot. The one thing that kept players captivated to researching comps were the TRAITS and making 6-trait comps. Plucking a trait away makes the diversity of comps so stale that it leaves no room for interesting play. It is NOT worth going a "3-trait comp" with 2/6 of three traits over 6/6 nobles/clan OR 4/4 nobles/clan because the 2/6 trait boosts are so weak. Everyone's favorite aspect of skill expression was removed in a blink.
- ๐พ BOSSES. not much to say. 2nd quest orb gives a free 3 star boss and 3rd quest orb gives a free 4 star boss. What were the devs thinking?? The ONE saving grace is this: if you AND your opponent both get the same boss, you can block the boss from them. EXAMPLE:
You get a 2 star monk from the 2nd orb. You have the 2 star monk and now gain access to a pool of 4 copies of the monk (6 copies total). Your opponent gets a 3 star monk BUT he shares the same pool of 4 copies. This means you can block your opponent from getting the 4 star monk (this is a rare case though).
4b. SKELLY DRAG. screw this card no words needed.
4c. Duchess with Mini Pekka. I would say something but my lawyer advised me not to. - ๐ BUGS. The bugs have been progressively getting worse every season and they don't address the issues. This season is the worst so far with elixir being deleted every other game, troops disappearing, and your 3 star monk turning into a Goblin Lute. This makes the game unplayable from beginner level all the way up to competitive. Admittedly, small bugs have been patched every update but at an alarmingly slow rate while not addressing theost major bugs.
While this season looked good on paper and solved a couple of issues with the game's concept overall, this new season brought no competitive variability to the game, increased components of RNG, and didn't even make Merge Tactics more fun to play. If anything, I've seen pro players, YouTubers, and most casual players losing interest because it is no longer satisfying to push or win games anymore. The game is devoid of competitive integrity, and the balance changes yesterday were a smack in the face to the community's pleads and complaints. It's a mystery how the devs manage to go season by season ignoring community feedback while bringing features like Duo Queuing, Quests, and removing the 2nd trait that nobody asked for.
This has been an amazing 3 seasons as TheBuilderMain with this community. I met a lot of talented and welcoming players and I appreciate every one of them and how much I learned every day. Thank you for reading โค๏ธ
Tomb queen will be useless in the future if Undead is changed
Tomb queen herself is horrible with her base stats; it's the Undead trait over time stacking that allows her to have 20k+ hp at round 10.
My gripe is that in future seasons, if they ever change the Undead trait to do something different (as they have this update) then Tomb Queen is gonna suck unless undead trait is OP in the future.
So we can expect either:
- Tomb Queen is gonna suck in future seasons
- Undead Trait will never get reworked (which would get stale and I doubt it considering how much they've changed every trait since S0)
- Undead will get changed at some point and Tomb Queen will get a buff/rework in the future
New Clan of Merge Gam(BL)ING open!

4 star round 5 with empress... the game may be cooked
New 4 star Echo now has less hp than 2 star with 2/4 clan buff
echo level 1 is 600 --> 600 hp
echo level 2 is 900 --> 720 hp
echo level 3 is 1350 --> 864 hp
echo level 4 is 2025 --> 1036 hp
level 2 + 2/4 clan (30% hp) is 1170 hp
New level 4 has less hp than most 2 star echos. Echo dead this season?

Now that the main game is dead, does anyone else only play for Merge?
I see people in threads saying "Clash Royale is officially dead" always with one commenter saying "I only have the app for merge tactics now."
Does anyone else only play for merge or play ranked for progression solely for merge tactics cards? (I'm in that boat)
Trying to get to 13k for ranked (and trying to push ranked)
I came back to the game recently and I used to use a deck like this a lot. Is there a more meta egiant deck? (I'll probably put in hero bowler once I get him)
