Unintentionally (or perhaps subconsciously) analog horror themed recent additions to my collection. All featuring some form of monster, spirit, or corpse traveling through television sets.

It's been almost a decade since I bought anything on Blu-Ray and I've had my eye on the Zatoichi box set this whole time. As I was moving away from physical media it was hard to justify the price. Well, it's time to resume building my movie collection and the 50% off sale made this purchase a no-brainer.

What is the first movie you plan to watch from your haul and why?

Already watched the first 3 films. The Tale of Zatoichi, The Tale of Zatoichi Continues, & New Tale of Zatoichi. Just starting at the beginning and working my way through (again).

Is there anything from this haul that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?

I've wanted this boxset since it was announced like 13 years ago.

Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?

No, I've seen all the Zatoichi films at least a couple of times.

What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next?

Would be Lost Highway & Blue Velvet but holding out for the rumored David Lynch box set. Otherwise, looking at that Yojimbo / Sanjuro set & Videodrome.

My favorite take on the cyberpunk genre visually and my absolute favorite OVA miniseries.

The 1994 OVA. I've never read or watched any Baki the Grappler before. Read that the anime covers this arc in it's first season so I imagine this is very truncated but it's a fun, breezy 45 minute watch. Well animated and surprisingly brutal.

Watched this for the first time last night. Karate, demons, alternate dimensions. 60 minutes of throwing the kitchen sink at you and it is awesome. Some excellent action (and gore) animation including this scene that feels like the animators flexing their anatomy knowledge.

The other removed episodes are still absent but Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth is back.

EDIT: It is still removed on Disney+.

Didn't get a chance to hit up shops on RSD but managed to snag these from RSKMRT as soon as they went live there. Xmal was the must have for me. I have First and Last and Always on CD but it's been on my vinyl want list for a while. It's not a rare album but this being the Japanese version is novel and the MSRP was very reasonable. Great pairing.
