My collection finally got the home it deserves

My father in law surprised us with shelves he made for our collection. So happy for them to finally have a real space to be displayed and wanted to share

Help a poor beginner

A few days ago I started to get passionate about the physical format (not only in movies, but also in games and music). How can I start my collection? Where do you recommend I buy? What should I know first?

Thanks in advance

Which would you prefer?

Which case would you pick? I have the extended cut of Windtalkers and have both the blu ray case w/ slip cover and the DVD directors box set. The second picture is one part of the DVD set opened. It’s bigger but better artwork?

My most expensive set. Steven Spielberg collection set

200$ but I wanted most of these in 4k so it worked out. Even came with a certificate so that's neat. I've been busy but I saw the opening DDay scene for SPR and it was gut wrenching. Really appreciate the 4k upgrade so I can see stuff I dont remember seeing in the background.

My collection so far

Got back into collecting physical media back in February and this is where I'm at so far. I got about 250 Blu-ray/4K

plus a couple more boxes of DVDs. Most of my blurays have been purchased used. I have also managed to get 2 4K players and a Blu-ray player. This all started when a buddy of mine gifted a copy of Akira 4K Steelbook. I'm pretty proud of where my collection is.

Love the fact that I own it

Just watched the classic. I am a big fan of the legacy. But now I'm not sure - the classic is up there at the same level.

Also the special edition has so many bonuses too, probably takes more than the movie duration lol, gotta watch all that now

Not to mention the design of the disc in the blue single color with the "3D" text

I'm so glad I got into this 😍 🥰

Lionsgate should release both seasons of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! on DVD and Blu-ray in honor of the show's upcoming 20th anniversary

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! is turning 20 this August. After seeing the success of Warner Bros.' complete series sets of Cartoon Network shows such as Regular Show and The Powerpuff Girls, I think Lionsgate (who acquired Wubbzy owner Starz in 2016) should release the entirety of the show on DVD and Blu-ray this year, including both seasons, "Wubbzy's Big Movie!" and "Wubb Idol." Lionsgate released Starz's two Hellboy animated films (Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron) on 4K in 2019 to promote the theatrical release of the 2019 Hellboy movie (both films were produced by Film Roman, Starz's animation studio, who also produced Wubbzy). Lionsgate also released the entire 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series on DVD in 2012, so it would be a good idea for them to do the same thing with Wubbzy.

Mars Attacks 4k vs. Blu

I normally avoid questions like this. It usually gets too in the weeds for me about bit rates and pixel peeping.

My Walmart is selling Mars Attacks on Blu for a mere $10, but I see a 4k is coming out for a very reasonable $24 or $29.99.

In the past, there are very few movies where I can tell the genuine difference. Atomic Blonde being one of them.

I feel like a 90’s heavy effects movie can benefit from the 4k upgrade, but I do like the flat out affordable nature of a $10 blu.

Curious to what one thinks about this particular title.

9 times out of 10 I go with blu because the quality is there and certainly the price is as well.

Curious what you all think?

WTB - Looking for a location

I'm a big Sandra Bullock fan (don't judge me, lol)

I have almost all of her collection on Blu-ray except one.

"While you were sleeping" was produced and distributed in Australia on Blu ray in a region free format. They are available on Ebay, but at absolutely crazy prices.

Anyone know where I can get a Blu-ray copy?

Thanks.

My entire collection over 8 months

I’ve used criterion 50% sale
Prime day sale
B&N sale
For most of these
Was able to pick up most of the blu-rays from a local movie rental place that was selling extra copies

Where to buy DVDs/Blu-Rays?

大家好!I was wondering if anyone knew good online retailers to buy DVDs or Blu-Rays of movies in Mandarin? I am looking for something similar to CypressBooks, but for DVDs and Blu-Rays. Any help would be much appreciated!

4K Blu-rays added to the collection (with initial impressions)

I popped each movie in to check out the visual quality and make sure it works before return periods expire.  Below are my initial impressions from the early scenes.

Anaconda (1997)

MaxCLL 1,495

Max FALL 280

Fine to moderate grain.  Heavier grain comes in the night shots, of course.  Natural looking picture, with bright HDR highlights at time.  Things like artificial lights can go pretty bright, but fire is really the star here and looks fantastic.  Generally good detail and nice and sharp, though some shots are softer with either being slightly out of focus, or a glamour shot with JLo seeming to have a bit of a soft glam filter.  The CG is obviously CG, but holds up better than I expected.  A lot of the snake shots are actually a practical effect/prop, so you can spot the difference when it is a CG snake, but its not egregiously bad or anything.

Anaconda (2025)

MaxCLL 283

Max FALL 202

A more subdued HDR grade as far as peak highlights go, but it is a generally bright and colourful movie.  It is a very clean presentation, with a slight layer of grain imposed over the digitally shot image that softens things just a little.  It remains sharp and detailed.  Contrast is put to good use.  Great skin tones and natural colour.  Warm Palette.  This is a very attractive looking disc.

Super Mario Bros

The initial impression when the movie starts is not great.  Soft shots, no HDR.  Give it a minute though and you get some very nice details, which varies from shot to shot.  One shot, particularly close-ups can have a crazy amount of fine detail.  Others are slightly out of focus and have less detail.  Grain is very, very fine in some shots, light in others, and occasionally moderate.  The image is bright and colourful and has good contrast, depth and dimensionality considering it is SDR only.  Skin tones are healthy, colours are natural looking.  I’d love to see what HDR could bring to this film, but its good for what it is.

Perfect Blue

MaxCLL

Max FALL

This is another SDR-only 4K, but the upgrade over the standard blu-ray is easily apparent.  This came from a new 4K scan and looks great.  Unlike the old blu-ray, the image here is more stable, has better contrast and colours and is from from DNR.  Fine grain is in tact. There are some specs and flecks in the scan, but it’s not terribly distracting.  Apparently, there are a couple of quick flashes around the 57-minute mark that go to a black screen instead of the image that is supposed to be there, so if that bothers you, then I guess avoid this release, but, personally, I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t read about it and the rest of the movie is a clear upgrade.

My New Year’s resolution this year was to cut back on paying for streaming services and build a blu-ray collection. What started as a small collection of movies has now blossomed into this over the last 6 months
