Wife Fell into Psychosis: I am terrified for her & worried.

I am American and was living in Canada with my wife, who is Canadian. We got married and built a life together.

About a year ago, she lost custody of her son after a mental health crisis led to her arrest. She was charged with uttering threats after our elderly neighbors recorded her screaming into a towel while her child was present. As a result, she has a no-contact order with her son.

Her ex was given third-party access during visits, and on one occasion at a McDonald's, he crept up behind her and said something that made her visibly terrified. I called him a stalker, and he left. Her family took his side.

Since then, she has fallen into severe psychosis—talking to herself, not sleeping, and becoming paranoid about our neighbors. She currently believes her son is dead and does not acknowledge that she is on probation or that a warrant is out for her arrest.

On April 8th, I had to call the police because she was in the bathroom screaming that our neighbors were going to kill us. She was clutching our cat so tightly it scratched her stomach badly. It took four officers to apprehend her. She was placed on a 72-hour hold but was released after about four days.

Not long after, I filed a Form 2 to have her vaulted again. She masked for the officers—calm, rational, in control—and they brought her back within two hours. Nothing changed.

I called for help multiple times after that—wellness checks, police, crisis teams. At least 15 times. Every time, she masked. They left. Nothing happened.

At home, things got worse. She would pry my eyelids open while I was trying to sleep. She turned off the circuit breakers while I was working. She cut her hands on broken glass during some kind of ritual with tarot cards. I cleaned her wounds, tried to keep her calm, begged her to get help.

It became impossible to work from home (I work in the tech field). She was waking me up, breaking things, and turning off the power. I was terrified of an arrest or a false accusation—being American in another country with no support system.

I tried to tell her I needed to leave, but she blocked the door and grabbed my arm. I left while she was sleeping, drove back to the U.S., and have been supporting her from a distance—sending groceries every two weeks, trying to keep her afloat.

She has also posted delusional content on social media—videos saying I abandoned her, and posts where she claims I am still in the building, on the 4th floor. She is looking for me in a place I am not.

After I left, I sent her a new phone to stay in contact—but she threw out the SIM card. I tried to reach her through the apartment building, but they refused to hand her a phone with me on the line, citing privacy laws.

She now will not talk to me at all.

The building has issued an N5 eviction notice documenting her behavior—unplugging sump pumps, turning on stove elements with nothing cooking, removing window limiters, throwing things off the balcony, screaming, and harassing neighbors.

She has also missed probation appointments and does not believe she is on probation. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

I am terrified she will end up homeless or preyed upon. I have done everything I can, and I don’t know what will happen next.

If anyone has been through something similar, I would really appreciate hearing how you handled it."
