FAFSA won’t cover my elective, but my advisor told me to register anyway?
I’m in a master’s program, and I need to stay enrolled while I work toward passing my remaining Praxis exam so I can continue in my program and eventually start my internship.
My advisor told me that FAFSA probably won’t cover the elective course I need to take because it doesn’t count toward my degree requirements. However, she also told me to go ahead and register to see what happens.
My question is: Has anyone ever registered for a class that they were told financial aid wouldn’t cover, but FAFSA ended up paying for it anyway?
If FAFSA does pay for the class, would I later have to repay that money because the course wasn’t eligible? Or if it pays successfully, is it generally considered covered?
I’m just trying to understand if there’s any risk before I register. I’d love to hear if anyone has been in a similar situation.
