I finished FAFSA for Law School…help

Completed my FAFSA a few weeks ago, and it said my max direct loan amount was 20,500 but I thought professional degrees (Law) were allowed 50k??

If my cost of attendance minus scholarship is less than 50k, am I able to cover that with a federal loan? I have not received my aid package from school yet and am genuinely confused. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Paying Loans While in School??

I just logged into my account and it says my repayment schedule has started. I am still in school and have been for the past two semesters, Spring and Summer. The loans was for my Summer semester which is 9 credits, I’m about to finish of 6 of them and then take the last 3 this July. I am also going straight into actual university after this as a full-time, on campus student. I don’t understand why they’re asking me to start my repayment plan. I literally just got this loan two weeks ago, this makes no sense.

Edit: It even says on my portal, that I’m a “current student” and that status shouldn’t change since there will be no breaks in between my schooling.

Edit 2: Please don’t reply to this post if you’re just going to suggest I pay it or don’t have an actual answer or suggestions.

What do I do if my parents want to be labeled as living together even though they are separated?

Fasfa applications will come out in a few months. My mom and dad are separated and have been for almost two years. My mom makes less money than my dad but both of them don't make a lot anyway. The thing is that my dad and I have a really bad relationship. (Idk if he should be called a deadbeat.) He told me that I MUST label them as living together because apparently they both file their taxes as living together, which could help them get some benefits (all according to them). I am living with my mom and I feel like putting my mom as the person I am depending on will get me more aid. What do I do?

Will anything happen if I fail a few classes at a Community College?

So I’m attending a 4 year Uni that I wanted to get into. However, this summer I decided to take about 14 credit hours and I realized that was a terrible idea because work and no motivation.

Luckily Fafsa paid for most of the costs. I was wondering does SAP transfer to my main University and will it affect my Fafsa there or everything will stay at the CC? I still have time to withdraw or try to pass. I know my Uni takes C- as transfer credits only.

My college says my SAI is 32,207 which disqualifies me for significant federal funding but my family is poor and this makes no sense.

I googled it and an SAI like that means my parents are making high six figures. I have 11 siblings and have been poor my entire life. My parents have literally no assets to their name and my father does not have a high paying job.

As far as I can tell the only way this could happen is if my parents incorrectly entered financial information. Or I guess they have secretly been making a shit ton of money or something.

Is this a mistake or are my parents secretly rich? And how can I fix this?

Thanks for any advice.

Summer Aid

So out of nowhere my summer aid went from $2,250 to $900. I now owe my school $1,800, any ideas as to what happened? This changed out of nowhere.

Help: FAFSA not producing SAI - parent abroad, no income

I submitted my FAFSA for 2026-27 and filled it out the same way I did last year, but my school says they've received multiple transactions and none are fully processed because the system isn't producing an SAI.

The FAFSA summary shows: "Income Earned in Foreign Country in 2024 - The parent did not and will not file any tax return because they did not earn any income or they were not required to file under the Internal Revenue Code."

My parents live abroad and truly have no income. I already gave my financial aid office documentation confirming this, but nothing has changed - my aid still isn't showing up in my bill.

Has anyone else had this issue? Did you have to submit extra paperwork (like a Non-Filer Statement) or get Federal Student Aid to manually reprocess your FAFSA?
Thanks for any advice - I'm worried because my school's deadline to accept/decline aid is July 6.

FAFSA won’t cover my elective, but my advisor told me to register anyway?

I’m in a master’s program, and I need to stay enrolled while I work toward passing my remaining Praxis exam so I can continue in my program and eventually start my internship.
My advisor told me that FAFSA probably won’t cover the elective course I need to take because it doesn’t count toward my degree requirements. However, she also told me to go ahead and register to see what happens.
My question is: Has anyone ever registered for a class that they were told financial aid wouldn’t cover, but FAFSA ended up paying for it anyway?
If FAFSA does pay for the class, would I later have to repay that money because the course wasn’t eligible? Or if it pays successfully, is it generally considered covered?
I’m just trying to understand if there’s any risk before I register. I’d love to hear if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Fafsa Summer Disbursement

has anyone received their financial aid disbursement for summer 2026. Also is there a minimum requirement of classes I need to take in order to receive my disbursement since it’s been two weeks already and I haven’t received anything. 😭

This happens every year ( issues)

Hey-so, I had emailed my financial Aid advisor before the summer started and she said, “ you are in good shape to come back”. So, fast forward yesterday I viewed my account and saw that I had 8k on my account, what could be the issue? Last year I remember they had double charged me one time for my meal plan but I don’t even think it costed me 8k. My anxiety is elevated just thinking about it. I did everything on time such as financial aid and my grants.

Is ED ever releasing 2026-27 Aid?

Not to jump off a ledge here, but can the Department of Education continue delaying financial aid indefinitely?

I’m in my second class, my fall bill has already posted, and I still don’t have anticipated aid. My school (and from what I’ve read here, many others) is continuing to push back the estimated funding date every time I ask. Which I’m getting information from Reddit because no one else is talking about this, notifying us of a timelines/updates; literally crickets everywhere else.

I understand regulations take time, and this administration doesn’t typically plan for that, but at what point are there protections for students? Many of us are being expected to either front thousands of dollars or risk our enrollment, livelihoods, etc. while we wait on decisions we have no assurance will ever even happen.

I’m frustrated and scared, not just for myself, but also for students, financial aid administrators, faculty, and staff who are stuck trying to navigate this uncertainty. Delays happen, but months of uncertainty without a firm timeline puts real people in difficult situations.

Is anyone else wondering if there are even actual guardrails ensuring we do get aid this year at all?

Mom Cant Pay Because of Crippling Debt. What do I do now???

I’m applying to both Temple University and Rowan University for the Spring 2027 semester. My parents were never married and I’ve lived with my mom my whole life but suddenly said she can’t do her portion of the FAFSA because she’s six figures in debt. Unfortunately FAFSA does not GAF about this because the forms do not take debt into account, so unfortunately on paper she is more than capable of paying.

I looked into it and there’s apparently no possible way for me to have my dad co-sign instead because I don’t live with him. I also can’t petition to be an independent because that would require proof of abuse or abandonment (neither of which are happening).

Is there anything I can do about this or am I just screwed??

EDIT: this is probably relevant info but I am currently in community college and finishing there this fall, so doing another two years at community college wouldn’t be an option.

Pell grant return

Hello, it seems the platform is a bit of a mess and maestro doesn’t like direct conversation. Well with the recent mess with the accrediting I decided to withdraw and put my efforts into a better program. Here’s the question I’m trying to get the money that was sent to the school returned so I don’t have to deal with that later on. How do I do so if the schools financial aid officer refuses to contact me. They have shown quite a bit of ignorance during this time.

Will my aid stay the same?

So basically I am a sophomore at NYU and I fell under the NYU promise so for both freshman and sophomore year they gave me enough aid to cover my dorming + a reimbursement. For junior year I got an apartment and I’m wondering if they’re gonna decrease my aid because of that or just increase the reimbursement so I can pay rent to the apartment. I won’t need more than they were already giving me aid wise. My family income has stayed the same for freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

My financial aid summary looks like this and does this mean that I won’t get any financial aid?
