Why do dealers use brand new customer bikes for test rides?
Am I the only one who feels this is unfair?
For a new bike, the first 500–1000 km break-in period is important. Companies themselves say to avoid high RPM, harsh acceleration, and aggressive riding during this period.
But then some dealers give the same bike to customers for test rides before delivery. Most people on test rides won’t care about proper break-in — they may rev hard, accelerate aggressively, or ride rash.
Later another customer gets that “new” bike.
I understand a few kilometers during PDI and transport is normal, but using customer delivery bikes for repeated test rides doesn’t feel right to me.
Would you accept a bike with higher odo reading if the dealer says it was only for test rides? How many km do you think is acceptable on a “new” bike at delivery?
