Purchased this truck on Tuesday, it’s everything I’ve wanted in a truck. By Monday, 6 days later, I was back at the dealer in the service center with a blown head gasket.
I had my mechanic take a look at it and he said the truck looked amazing and how nice it was even though he has one just like it. We popped the hood and it instantly smelled like antifreeze. I brought it to his shop and he tested the hydrocarbons and the were well over 2000 verifying that the head gasket was indeed blown. He told me it had been like that for a while with how high the number was and that the thermostat had likely been removed due to the fact it wasn’t overheating or running rough.
Monday morning I brought it down with a print out from the tester and the mechanic was shocked and told me not to drive off with it. A couple hours later I was sent home with a loaner vehicle because they didn’t know how long it was going to take, maybe weeks.
I’m appreciative that they’re taking care of me without question and gave me a vehicle (pretty nice Acura mdx) to drive around in the meantime but don’t they check these things before they sell them? I know they do an inspection before the vehicle leaves the lot but a quick hydrocarbon test would’ve prevented all this. While I’m frustrated I’m without my truck, I’m also appreciative i bought a vehicle from a company that seems to stand by what they sell.
I’ll update in a couple weeks when I hear back.
