First time hitch hiking today!!

I've been meaning to try hitch hiking for a little while now. My dad told me I'd be out there all day and never get picked up. I am really tall, pretty fat, and kinda ugly, so I believed this too. Today, I had ridden the bus to cracker barrel about 11 miles from home, and had to wait 40 minutes for the bus. I figured that since the on ramp for the interstate was right by the bus stop, I would try and get a ride for 30 minutes to the bus station, and if I didn't get a ride, I would just ride the bus home. I didn't think I would, but I did get a ride very quickly. In the span of 4 minutes, a car drove by me and honked their horn at me, someone stuck a peace sign out the window, and then a guy picked me up. I was just gonna try and ask for the exit right by the bus station, but this guy asked where I lived and offered to drive me the whole way home. It went very smoothly, and I can definitely say I am pretty confident. I've been thinking of hitch hiking across the country, but I think I need to get in better shape first. It was a lot of fun and hell, I might even hitch hike some more tomorrow just for fun. It felt like gambling almost. Told my dad I didn't get molested, and he told me to show more leg next time. But yeah, pretty stoked about that today.

Hitchhiking as a big, tall, scary guy.

Hey everyone. I have wanted to hitch hike for a little while now and I have been thinking of packing up and having a go. But I don't know if anyone would pick me up. I'm 6'6 and 330LB, and not necessarily the most attractive... I know a lot of hobos hitch hike and I can't imagine they have the best sex appeal all the time. (No Offense to any hobos)
I was thinking I might be able to get away with flying a Canadian flag in the USA. Of course many and most Americans stereotype Canadians as being nice and harmless. Not sure how I would fly a flag though while hitch hiking. Is stature and looks a big player in getting picked up? I'd assume so, my dad said nobody is gonna pick me up and I'm gonna be on the side of the road all day. I guess no harm in trying, just would like to know what to expect.
